Aaron Rodgers Jokes About Breaking Tom Brady’s Record as Most-Sacked NFL QB Ever after loss to Bills

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers maintained a sense of humor despite getting pulled midway through Sunday’s 40-14 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Midway through the third quarter, Rodgers passed Tom Brady to become the most sacked QB in NFL history.

“Yeah, I got Tom on that,” he told reporters after the game.

As much as that was a throwaway joke, Rodgers’ teammates probably weren’t in a lighthearted mood. Sunday was the nadir of an already frustrating campaign, with New York trailing 33-0 when its starting quarterback asked to be subbed out.

The situation raises further doubt on Rodgers’ future with the team. It becomes increasingly harder to see how the partnership can continue into 2025.

Unlike with last year, when Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 1, it’s hard to pinpoint one reason why his performance has been so lackluster.

The 41-year-old had been banged up at various points yet hasn’t missed a game. In 16 starts, he has thrown for 3,623 yards, 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions.

Unfortunately, the Jets’ run of bad luck continued with a disastrous season that will end without a trip to the playoffs for the 14th straight year.

New York owns the longest active playoff drought in any of the four major North American men’s sports leagues.

Rodgers has acknowledged that his future is uncertain, as he will need to take some time to decide whether he will continue his playing career. If he does, he’s expressed an openness to remaining with the Jets, but the team could choose to cut ties with him and pursue a younger starter in free agency or the 2025 NFL draft.

Between Rodgers taking himself out against Buffalo and the offense immediately looking better with Tyrod Taylor, one can’t help but wonder whether the changeover already starts to happen in Week 18.

BREAKING: insider reveals New York Giants’ final stance on Brian Daboll firing

The New York Giants are one of the more intriguing teams of the offseason, as changes could be coming after a poor season. Speculation suggests head coach Brian Daboll could wind up being one of those changes.

Chatter around the NFL suggests that Daboll will be let go by the Giants, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic. General manager Joe Schoen is expected to be retained.

Russini notes that, by contrast, many within the Giants’ building believe Daboll will get another season, including the coach himself. No decision is believed to have been made yet by owner John Mara.

There have been reports that Mara is still a believer in Daboll, which could save the head coach. The Giants are 3-13, however, and it would be presumptuous to assume anyone is safe after a season that has produced that sort of result.

Daboll led the Giants to the NFC divisional round in his first year as head coach in 2022.

The team has gotten worse every year since, however, culminating in a dreadful 2024 season that included the release of starting quarterback Daniel Jones. Whether Daboll gets another season and a chance to work with whoever the team’s next quarterback is remains to be seen

BREAKING: NY Jets reportedly have made surprise Rodgers, Adams decisions for 2025

BREAKING: NY Jets reportedly have made surprise Rodgers, Adams decisions for 2025

Rumblings emerged shortly after New York Jets owner Woody Johnson dismissed general manager Joe Douglas in November, claiming that the Jets would part ways with noteworthy veteran players such as quarterback Aaron Rodgers and wide receiver Davante Adams during the upcoming offseason as part of a franchise reset.

There’s now more information on why at least Rodgers could have a new NFL home later this year.

“Barring an unforeseen change, the Jets are expected to move on from QB Aaron Rodgers and WR Davante Adams this offseason,” uStadium reported on Tuesday. “Source tells us the relationship between owner Woody Johnson and Rodgers is ‘irreparable.’”

It’s hardly a stretch to say that the Jets’ experiment of acquiring Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers in the spring of 2023 has not gone as hoped.

He suffered a campaign-ending torn Achilles on the Jets’ fourth offensive snap of his Gang Green regular-season debut, allegedly failed to mentor former New York backup signal-caller Zach Wilson as originally planned and later skipped the club’s two-day mandatory minicamp this past June because of “a pre-planned trip to Egypt.”

More recently, Rodgers has largely played like a shell of his former great self throughout the ongoing season up through being replaced by current backup Tyrod Taylor in this past Sunday’s 40-14 blowout loss to the Buffalo Bills that dropped the Jets to 4-12.

According to Pro Football Reference, Rodgers heads into Week 18 ranked 25th in the NFL among qualified players with a 48.3 adjusted QBR and 20th with an 89.1 passer rating on the campaign.

Over 16 games, the 41-year-old has tossed 24 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions.

It makes sense the relationship between Johnson and Rodgers could be “irreparable,” considering it was reported in November that Johnson suggested to coaches after New York’s 10-9 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 4 “that they bench Aaron Rodgers in favor of Tyrod Taylor because [Johnson] felt Rodgers’ performance was holding the team back.”

Meanwhile, Russ Weakland and Oliver Salt of the Daily Mail shared earlier this week that Rodgers “is convinced that a move to either the Cleveland Browns, Indianapolis Colts, Tennessee Titans or Las Vegas Raiders would make the most sense in 2025” if he’s released by the Jets in March.

As for Adams, he could become a salary-cap casualty and wouldn’t have much reason to want to stay with a rebuilding Jets side if the club shows Rodgers, the 32-year-old’s close friend, the door.

While it remains to be seen if Rodgers will take a meaningful snap when the Jets host the 8-8 Miami Dolphins this coming Sunday, it seems there’s little reason he should want to risk his health during that matchup unless he plans to retire as soon as later this month

Mike Vrabel has three key conditions for next job after New York Jets interview

The New York Jets have shortlisted ex-Titans head coach Mike Vrabel for their open vacancy, but the former three-time Super Bowl-winning player has outlined what he expects from a future franchise

Mike Vrabel has been interviewed for the Jets job

Mike Vrabel has laid out three key conditions for his next job as the New York Jets interviews him for its vacant head coaching position.

Vrabel, 49, was last the head coach of the Tennessee Titans before being fired following the conclusion of the 2023 campaign. The former three-time Super Bowl-winning defensive star then took a consultancy role at the Cleveland Browns for the 2024 season while he weighed up his next career move.

According to The New York Post, Vrabel is looking like a leading candidate for the Jets job. Following the Jets’ defeat to the Minnesota Vikings in London, the franchise fired Robert Saleh and installed Jeff Ulbrich as interim for the remainder of 2024.

The Jets were just 2-3 when the franchise fired Saleh. However, the drastic measures taken with coaches failed to yield results, with the Jets heading into Week 18 with a 4-12 record. If the Jets are to land Vrabel, he has already laid out what he expects from a franchise to take up a role.

“There’s got to be clear communication with ownership, so that we understand as coaches what the expectations are,” Vrabel told The Athletic. “That’s so we can explain to them what’s reasonable, what we can do, what we probably can do and what we’re going to try to do — or die trying.

“I want to have a structure in place that people see the game the same way I do from an X’s and O’s standpoint, from a personnel standpoint, with team-building. We would hopefully have that alignment, which is critical. And I would like to be able to say that there’s a quarterback that you feel like you can win with — or that there’s a path to find the one that you can win with.”

Vrabel wants a quarterback he’s confident the team can win with, which will pose an interesting dilemma regarding current starter Aaron Rodgers. The 41-year-old four-time NFL MVP has had a torrid two seasons in New York, with his first campaign ending after just four snaps with an Achilles tear.
