Aaron Rodgers won’t be retiring from the New York Jets due to eroding ability.

After the team’s 32-20 victory over the Miami Dolphins, Rodgers gave an eyebrow-raising comment about what he still has left in the tank at 41 years of age.

‘I know I can still play,” Rodgers told the media on Sunday, January 5. “I know I can still do the things that I need to do to be successful. It just comes down to the desire on their side & ultimately my desire after I kind of take some time mentally & physically to rest & relax.”

Rodgers Ended the 2024 Season With a Bang
Play
It didn’t start great for Rodgers. The first pass of the game bounced off of Davante Adams and was intercepted by the Dolphins.

Outside of the first quarter, Rodgers was dealing – inspiring optimism that he still has more gas left in the tank.

Rodgers finished the game 23-of-36 for 274 passing yards with four touchdown passes and that one interception.

The 2024 season for the Jets will be among the most disappointing in team history considering expectations before the year. However, Rodgers’ 2024 campaign will forever sit among the best in franchise history.

Rodgers finished with 28 passing touchdowns and 3,897 passing yards. Both of those stats are the third most by a Jets quarterback in a single season.

Rodgers on Retirement Questions
On “NFL Gameday Morning” NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport said he spoke with people inside Rodgers’ inner circle about his football future.

“There are several people close to him that I know are preparing for the fact that this could in fact be it,” Rapoport shared.

After the game, Rodgers was asked for his reaction to that report.

“Yeah, I don’t have a relationship with Ian. I’m not sure who does in my circle. Probably no one that has talked to me in the last short while. No offense to Ian of course,” Rodgers responded.

During his post-game on-field interview with NFL Fox reporter Pam Oliver, Rodgers told her that he isn’t “going to hold anyone up” with his football decision.

Rodgers has said over the last couple of weeks that after the season he wants to get away and rest mentally and physically. This will be a multi-part decision.

Rodgers has to decide if he still wants to play the game of football. The new Jets regime that will be hired in the coming weeks must decide if they want Rodgers back.

Jets Complete Interview With Matt Nagy for HC Vacancy

Chiefs’ Offensive Coordinator Named 2018 NFL Coach of the Year

The Jets have completed a virtual interview with Matt Nagy for their vacant head coach position.

Nagy, 46, has been the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator for the last two seasons in his second stint with the organization. He first joined Kansas City as its quarterbacks coach from 2013-15 before taking over as OC from 2016-’17, which led him to being hired as Chicago’s head coach in ’18.

Nagy went 34-31 in four seasons with the Bears and made the playoffs twice. He was named AP Coach of the Year his first year as head coach with a 12-4 record and an NFC North title. Nagy led the team back to the postseason in 2020 as the wild card and was fired after a 6-11 season in ’21, his only losing season as head coach.

After his tenure in Chicago, Nagy returned to the Chiefs as the team’s senior assistant and quarterbacks coach under HC Andy Reid. Nagy’s first NFL coaching job came under Reid’s tutelage in Philadelphia in 2008. Nagy held three positions with the Eagles – coaching intern (’08-’09), coaches’ assistant (’10) and offensive quality control coach (2011-12) before moving with Reid to the Chiefs.

Nagy, from Dunellen, NJ, grew up in Manheim, PA, before playing college football at Delaware. After going undrafted in 2001, he played seven seasons in the Arena Football League.

For candidates who are coaching on a playoff team with a bye, like Nagy, those virtual interviews can be held between Wednesday and the end of wild-card weekend. They’re limited to three hours in length. In-person interviews with assistants who are under contract with other teams can begin on Jan. 20, unless those teams are still alive for the conference title games.

Jets Chairman Woody Johnson is leading the searches for a head coach and general. He hired The 33rd Team in a support role to help identify and vet candidates in addition to coordinating interviews.

Breaking news: New York Jets approach sacked Antonio Pierce for the head coach job as they see him as a wonderful opportunity that is available in a scarce market.

In a bold move, the New York Jets have reportedly approached Antonio Pierce for their head coaching vacancy. Pierce, who was recently let go by the Las Vegas Raiders after serving as their interim head coach, has quickly become one of the most intriguing candidates in a coaching market that lacks abundant proven options.

Pierce’s brief stint as the Raiders’ interim head coach showcased his leadership qualities and ability to unite a locker room. After taking over midseason, Pierce led the team to a more competitive and cohesive identity, drawing praise from players and analysts alike for his no-nonsense approach and relatability as a former NFL player. However, the Raiders decided to go in another direction, leaving Pierce available for teams in need of a fresh leader.

The Jets are reportedly enamored with Pierce’s potential to revitalize their underachieving squad. Despite high expectations entering the 2024 season, the team has struggled with inconsistent quarterback play and a lack of offensive production. With star players like Aaron Rodgers and Sauce Gardner on the roster, the Jets view Pierce as a candidate capable of maximizing the team’s talent and creating a winning culture.

The scarcity of high-caliber coaching candidates has intensified the Jets’ pursuit of Pierce. While some fans may question hiring a coach with limited experience, others see his fiery demeanor and player-first philosophy as a perfect fit for a team desperate to return to contention.

If negotiations progress, Pierce could find himself leading one of the league’s most high-profile teams into the 2025 season. The move signals the Jets’ willingness to bet on potential over established resumes, a gamble they hope will pay off in their quest for NFL success.

Haason Reddick Replacement Found: Jets Set to Land Elite Edge Rusher

The Haason Reddick was quite a disaster for the New York Jets. New York acquired Reddick in a trade with the Philadelphia Eagles with the intentions of extending his contract.

After acquiring him, the two parties couldn’t come to an agreement on an extension, so Reddick continued to hold out and miss football games. The star edge rusher would suit up in nine games for the Jets, recording just one sack and one forced fumble for New York. Before this disastrous season, Reddick had recorded 50.5 sacks over the previous four seasons.

With Reddick entering free agency this offseason, it’s time the Jets end this disaster of an experiment. There’s no better way to end it than to acquire his replacement in the same offseason.

Nate Tice and Charles McDonald of Yahoo Sports recently predicted the Jets to select Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Carter would swiftly replace Reddick for the Jets.

“General manager Joe Douglas may be gone, but the Jets continue to take defensive linemen,” Tice and McDonald wrote. “Abdul Carter can be up and down against the run, but he has the high-end pass rushing potential and could replenish a one elite unit that is starting to have to evolve its cast of characters.”

Carter is widely regarded as the best pass rusher in this season’s draft class. Some analysts even believe him to be the top defensive player. The junior has 22 sacks, 11 this season, across three years at Penn State.
