Just four days ago, Manchester United were totally dominated by Newcastle United, falling back in the Champions League race they had previously controlled with little trouble.

The Red Devils were pegged back by that result, but not dismayed, turning around to control the passage of play throughout in a 1-0 victory at home over a quality Brentford side, with Marcus Rashford’s goal enough to restore United to victorious ways.

Brentford, meanwhile, looked far from themselves, as Marcel Sabitzer and Scott McTominay controlled possession and the Bees hardly had a touch of the ball through the first 60 minutes. Brentford were slightly better after they made a bevy of changes on the hour mark, but it didn’t amount to much in the end.

David de Gea was required to make one exceptional save one-on-one against substitute Kevin Schade, but that was all the Spaniard was asked to do in front of goal.

The point brings Man United back into the Champions League places, jumping Tottenham into fourth. Newcastle pounded West Ham, so the Red Devils aren’t able to catch the Magpies, but being back amongst the top four will ease worries for now.

Video: Moment of magic from Martin Odegaard leads to Arsenal opener

Arsenal have opened the scoring in their huge Champions League match with FC Porto as the Gunners level the tie at 1-1.

Mikel Arteta’s team needed to score first having been 1-0 down from the first leg and a second would have made life very difficult for the North London club to progress.

That came just before halftime when some beautiful footwork from Martin Odegaard led to the Norweigan playing in Leandro Trossard.

The Belgian star remained composed and finished clinically as Arsenal will now turn up the heat in search of a second.

Manchester City have a taken the lead at Anfield from a brilliantly rehearsed corner.

Kevin de Bruyne whips in a low cross from the corner towards the front post, where Nathan Ake cleverly blocked Alexis Mac Allister to allow Stones to sneak into the six-yard box and slot it past Kelleher.

This early strike from the champions deals a significant blow to Liverpool, who will now have to come back from behind to grab anything from this match.
