Breaking News: Patrick Mahomes Honored with Prestigious Maxwell Award for Outstanding Excellence

In an exciting development for both Kansas City Chiefs fans and football enthusiasts nationwide, quarterback Patrick Mahomes has been honored with the prestigious Maxwell Award following another stellar season that cemented his place as one of the league’s top quarterbacks. Mahomes, who has already secured an impressive list of accolades throughout his career, now adds this prestigious award to his ever-growing trophy collection. The Maxwell Award, which is given annually to the best player in college football, has been a symbol of excellence and achievement for decades. While Mahomes’ journey to the NFL began in college at Texas Tech University, this latest award highlights his continued dominance and status as one of the most gifted and influential players in professional football today.

The award was presented to Mahomes during a special ceremony held earlier this week, where NFL legends, media members, and football professionals gathered to recognize Mahomes’ incredible contribution to the sport. As one of the youngest and most dynamic quarterbacks in the league, Mahomes’ impact has been felt far beyond just his on-field performances. His unique playing style, incredible arm strength, and ability to deliver under pressure have turned him into a household name, and this latest honor only strengthens his legacy.

The Maxwell Award: A Symbol of Excellence

The Maxwell Award, named after Robert “Tiny” Maxwell, a former player, coach, and sportswriter, is one of the oldest and most respected individual honors in college football. Since its inception in 1937, the award has recognized the best player in college football, with past winners including legends such as Johnny Unitas, Peyton Manning, and Tim Tebow. Though Mahomes’ college career was marked by some incredible individual performances and a memorable 2016 season at Texas Tech, his professional achievements with the Kansas City Chiefs have now propelled him to the top of the sport, earning him this prestigious honor.

Though the Maxwell Award typically recognizes the top college football player, Mahomes was honored for his continued excellence on the professional stage, with the committee making an exception to acknowledge the impact he has made as a current NFL player. This marks a significant moment in the history of the award, as it reflects the changing dynamics of professional football and the influence of players who have elevated the game beyond traditional standards.

Mahomes’ Career: From College Star to NFL Superstar

Patrick Mahomes’ journey to NFL superstardom has been a captivating one. A standout at Texas Tech, Mahomes left college football with a legacy defined by his fearless play, remarkable statistics, and impressive performances, but it was in the NFL where he truly exploded onto the scene.

Drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs as the 10th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, Mahomes quickly emerged as a force to be reckoned with. His first season as a starter in 2018 saw him post 5,097 passing yards, 50 touchdowns, and only 12 interceptions, an eye-popping stat line that earned him the NFL MVP award.

In addition to his regular-season success, Mahomes’ ability to perform in clutch situations and his flair for the dramatic helped turn the Chiefs into perennial Super Bowl contenders.

Mahomes’ 2019 season further cemented his status as one of the league’s elite quarterbacks. He led the Chiefs to a thrilling victory in Super Bowl LIV, earning Super Bowl MVP honors in the process. With his big arm, accuracy, and incredible athleticism, Mahomes proved to be a dynamic force that could do it all—whether it was tossing deep bombs, leading come-from-behind victories, or executing stunning plays on the run.

Though Mahomes faced challenges in the seasons following that Super Bowl win, including an ankle injury in 2020 and some early playoff disappointments, he has remained consistent as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. His ability to bounce back, stay poised under pressure, and perform in high-stakes moments has solidified his place among the all-time greats. As of 2025, Mahomes has led the Chiefs to another Super Bowl and has helped the team remain one of the league’s top contenders year in and year out.

The Significance of the Maxwell Award for Mahomes

Receiving the Maxwell Award is a significant honor for Mahomes, as it serves as a testament to his sustained excellence both on and off the field. Although the Maxwell Award is traditionally given to college players, its association with Mahomes serves as an acknowledgment of his greatness and influence within the sport, regardless of the level at which he plays. Mahomes’ story is an
inspiration for many young athletes and a reminder of what is possible when talent, determination, and the right opportunity align.

The Chiefs’ quarterback has become synonymous with innovation in football, known for his no-look passes, underhanded throws, and remarkable improvisation. His ability to make plays out of seemingly impossible situations has not only redefined what is possible for a quarterback, but it has also elevated the expectations for how quarterbacks should perform in the modern NFL.

By winning the Maxwell Award, Mahomes is not only being celebrated for his college accomplishments but also for his impact on the NFL and the game of football as a whole. The Maxwell Award has traditionally recognized players who have changed the course of the sport, and Mahomes’ unique style and leadership have made him one of the most influential figures in contemporary football.

A Look Back at Mahomes’ College Career

Before Mahomes was the face of the Kansas City Chiefs, he was a standout player for Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Playing under head coach Kliff Kingsbury, Mahomes quickly made a name for himself as one of the most electrifying quarterbacks in college football. Known for his ability to throw the ball from almost any arm angle and his penchant for big plays, Mahomes’ college career was marked by several eye-catching performances and prolific passing numbers.

In 2016, Mahomes led the nation in passing yards with 5,052 yards and threw for 41 touchdowns. His ability to throw for massive yardage in almost every game was unmatched, and while Texas Tech was not a perennial powerhouse, Mahomes’ individual brilliance kept the team competitive in the Big 12 Conference. His numbers in college were jaw-dropping, but it was his ability to put his team in a position to win even in the toughest of circumstances that set him apart from many of his peers. Although Mahomes’ college career didn’t end with a bowl victory or a national championship, his personal achievements were enough to propel him to the NFL, where his success would quickly overshadow any previous accolades. Despite his strong college career, Mahomes’ ability to develop into the quarterback he is today shows just how much potential was unlocked once he entered the NFL.

Mahomes’ Legacy and Impact on the NFL

Now, as one of the NFL’s most decorated quarterbacks, Patrick Mahomes has not only impacted the Kansas City Chiefs but the entire league. His brand of football—dynamic, aggressive, and unpredictable—has inspired a new generation of quarterbacks to embrace the art of improvisation and expand the boundaries of traditional quarterback play.

Mahomes has helped usher in a new era of quarterbacks, where athleticism and creativity are just as important as raw passing accuracy. His remarkable plays—whether it’s his iconic no-look passes, off-balance throws, or deep bombs to his fleet-footed wide receivers—have become a staple of the Chiefs’ offensive scheme. As Mahomes continues to break records, win MVPs, and lead his team to championships, his influence on the game is undeniable.

Moreover, Mahomes’ impact extends beyond just his on-field performances. Known for his leadership, philanthropy, and entrepreneurial spirit, Mahomes has quickly become one of the most marketable athletes in the world. From his ventures in the media and business world to his commitment to giving back to the community, Mahomes has used his platform to inspire and motivate countless fans and athletes alike.

Looking Ahead: The Future for Mahomes and the Chiefs

As Patrick Mahomes continues to add to his legacy, both personally and as part of the Kansas City Chiefs, the future looks incredibly bright. With several more years left in his career and a skill set that continues to evolve, Mahomes is well-positioned to continue his success for many seasons to come. While other quarterbacks in the NFL, such as Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, and Russell Wilson, have also made their marks on the game, Mahomes’ ascent to the top ranks of NFL quarterbacks is unprecedented, and he shows no signs of slowing down.

The Chiefs, under Mahomes’ leadership, are poised to remain contenders for the foreseeable future, with a roster that includes some of the league’s top offensive weapons, including tight end Travis Kelce and wide receiver Tyreek Hill. With Mahomes at the helm, Kansas City is well-positioned to remain one of the league’s most exciting and dominant teams.

In conclusion, Patrick Mahomes’ receipt of the Maxwell Award highlights his incredible journey from college star to NFL legend. The honor not only acknowledges his past achievements but also underscores his continued impact on the sport of football. As Mahomes looks toward the future, fans and analysts alike will continue to marvel at his extraordinary talent and what he accomplishes next on the field. The Maxwell Award is just one of many accolades that will come his way in the years to come, but it serves as a fitting recognition of his remarkable career so far .

CONFIRMED: Few Minutes Ago, The NY Jets Formally Announces The Signing Of A Seasoned Quarterback In Free Agency to replace Aaron Rodgers.

New York Jets have made a major move at quarterback, officially signing Ole Miss standout Jaxson Dart in free agency. The announcement came just minutes ago, confirming that the franchise has secured a young and dynamic signal-caller to replace veteran Aaron Rodgers.

Dart, who emerged as one of the most electrifying quarterbacks in college football during his time at Ole Miss, now steps into one of the most high-profile roles in the NFL. With Rodgers’ tenure in New York coming to an unexpected end, the Jets’ front office wasted no time in finding a promising successor.

The 6’2”, 220-pound quarterback made a name for himself in the SEC with his strong arm, mobility, and ability to extend plays. In his final season at Ole Miss, Dart threw for over 3,500 yards and 25 touchdowns while also proving to be a threat on the ground. His performance solidified his reputation as an NFL-ready talent, making him a sought-after free agent following the draft process.

HERE WE GO: NY Jets Officially Sign Ole Miss Star QB Jaxson Dart in Free Agency to Replace Aaron Rodgers.

Though several teams reportedly expressed interest in signing Dart, the Jets moved swiftly to secure his services. The terms of his contract have yet to be fully disclosed, but early reports suggest a multi-year deal that signals the franchise’s long-term commitment to him as their quarterback of the future.

Aaron Rodgers’ time in New York was filled with high expectations but was ultimately marred by injury. After suffering a devastating Achilles tear early in the 2023 season, Rodgers’ future with the team became uncertain. While there was speculation about a potential return, the Jets’ decision to sign Dart now makes it clear they are looking ahead.

Head coach Robert Saleh expressed excitement about the move, stating, “Jaxson is a special talent. We believe his skill set fits perfectly with our offensive scheme, and we’re eager to see how he develops under our system.”

With a strong supporting cast that includes talented weapons like Garrett Wilson and Breece Hall, the Jets are positioning themselves for a competitive season. The addition of Dart brings a fresh energy to the locker room, and fans are eager to see how he adapts to the NFL.

The 2025 season is shaping up to be a defining moment for the Jets, and all eyes will be on Jaxson Dart as he steps into one of the most scrutinized positions in sports. Can he be the franchise quarterback the team has been searching for? Only time will tell, but for now, the Jets have made their intentions clear—Jaxson Dart is their guy.

Aaron Rodgers Sends 2-Word Message to Jets About Retirement

Aaron Rodgers Sends 2-Word Message to Jets About Retirement

New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers interacting with teammate Davante Adams after an NFL game.

Aaron Rodgers won’t play for the New York Jets during the 2025 season.

However, it sounds like he intends to play football for someone else citing “unfinished business.”

NFL Insider Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated revealed that Rodgers told head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey, “that it was his tentative intention to play in 2025. These things can change, of course, but Rodgers gave the Jets the impression that he had unfinished business to take care of.”

“So going forward that is the next piece of the puzzle, is Rodgers going to play in 2025? I think he is. That is just my informed opinion on this,” Breer said on “The Breer Report.”

Breer explained that there are teams in the NFL that would be a fit for Rodgers in 2025. He mentioned two that make sense: the New York Giants and the Pittsburgh Steelers.

A Difference in Paths Forward for the Jets and Rodgers

Rodgers still wants to play and the Jets need a starting quarterback, so what gives?

Breer described it as an “it’s not you, it’s me” explanation.

“The reality was that the Jets’ desire to move on was about them and not Rodgers, and timelines that don’t match up. New York, under its leaders, was looking at a deliberate reimagination of its football operation, which was going to be tough to marry up with a quarterback playing for this year alone,” Breer said. “For what it’s worth, the Jets do believe Rodgers still has bullets left in the gun.”

When Rodgers first arrived via blockbuster trade in 2023 he talked about the lonely Super Bowl III trophy in the Jets facilities. Breer said every team’s goal is winning the whole thing every year, “But in realistic terms, the pursuit of it doesn’t look the same for everyone.”

In other words, Rodgers is playing his career year-to-year in hopes of winning another championship. While the Jets aren’t realistically in the title picture anymore and this “boils down to goals that don’t really match up,” Breer added.

It comes down to what would the Jets’ ceiling have been with Rodgers at quarterback in 2025. Super Bowl? Playoffs? Winning record? More of the same? What Rodgers and the Jets thought the answer to that question was didn’t align.

Jets Must Sort Through the Rubble to Move Forward

Ultimately the Rodgers-Jets trade will be remembered as a failed experiment.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini revealed that it is “likely” the Jets cut Rodgers with a post-June 1 designation.

That means the team will carry him on the roster up until the new league year on March 12. They will then cut him “which will allow them to split the remaining cap charges ($49 million) over two years: $14 million in 2025, $35 million in 2026.”

By splitting it across two years, the team creates cap flexibility that wouldn’t exist if they took the entire $49 million dead cap hit on the chin in 2025.

“In this scenario, his current cap number ($23.5 million) will be on their books until June 2 and then drops to $14 million — a savings of $9.5 million for 2025. He would be free to sign elsewhere [on] March 13. He doesn’t have to wait until then to speak with teams; he can do so immediately,” Cimini explained.

2025 QB carousel is as simple as the Titans, Browns, Giants, and Raiders fighting over the same 3 players in the NFL Draft and free agency

2025 QB carousel is as simple as the Titans, Browns, Giants, and Raiders fighting over the same 3 players in the NFL Draft and free agency

The Tennessee Titans are patiently waiting for the beginning of free agency, when the biggest dominoes on the 2025 QB carousel will—or won’t—fall. All eyes are on Matthew Stafford with the Los Angeles Rams and Derek Carr with the New Orleans Saints. These are the top-2 QBs currently under contract whose futures with their current teams are uncertain.

If either of those guys is on the move in March, it could shake some things up. But if neither moves, the quarterback picture seems much simpler than some are making it out to be.

I think right now, we’ve got 4 teams fighting over 3 QBs: The Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, and Las Vegas Raiders are fighting over Shedeur Sanders, Cam Ward, and Sam Darnold.

These teams are drafting at 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 6th respectively. And unless a QB currently under contract can be pried away from their current team, this is the league consensus on the top-3 QB options for these QB-needy teams.

The Titans maintain the greatest control of the bunch. Whether they choose to take QB1 at 1st overall or trade down with a veteran plan instead, they control their own destiny in all of this. They have the money and draft position to go after anybody they want.

The Browns are primarily involved because of their draft slot and need for a cost-controlled QB option. Sure, they may decide to go after a veteran option such as Kirk Cousins should he become available. But it would have to be somebody rather cheap. If they fall for one of the QBs in this draft class, they’re set up to take him if he’s there at 2.

Let’s jump over the Giants for a moment and look at the Raiders. picking 6th overall, the Raiders are the team expected by league circles to go hard after Sam Darnold in free agency. The team has more ownership cashflow than they’ve have in a very long time (thanks Tom Brady & Co!) and new Head Coach Pete Carrol will want a QB he can win with now. They’re really not in a position to go after one of the rookie QBs unless they decide to mortgage their future, which isn’t expected, so they don’t have much of a choice. Darnold has to be their guy, unless they love the idea of Aaron Rodgers or Kirk Cousins for some reason. The Raiders may very well be the team that takes Darnold from the $35M/yr range up into $40M+ territory.

And that leaves just the Giants. Who is left for the poor G-Men? This is why you’ve heard recently just how much the Giants are publicly interested in a Matthew Stafford trade. He feels like their ticket to relevancy, to power in this QB cycle. Because otherwise, they’re at the mercy of teams ahead of and behind them.

The Titans and Browns hold the keys to the top-2 QBs if they want them, and the Raiders are expected to be the ones driving the market for Darnold. Perhaps the Giants could get desperate because of this and mortgage their future to move up a spot or two, but that doesn’t seem likely so far.

However this QB carousel pans out, I’m expecting Darnold, Sanders, and Ward to end up on these four teams. But who knows, one or two surprising QB dominoes fall, and nothing is off the table…

Polarizing Jets Pass Rusher Receives Massive Pay Raise

Polarizing Jets Pass Rusher Receives Massive Pay Raise

New York Jets defensive lineman Micheal Clemons making a play during an NFL game.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini shared on social media that Clemons qualifies for a “PPE (Proven Performance Escalator) raise.”

Clemons was scheduled to make $985,000 in base salary in 2025 but will now make $3.3 million. The former Texas A&M product’s salary more than tripled.

“Players drafted in rounds 2-7 can earn PPEs in their 4th year, based mostly on playing-time formula,” Cimini explained.

Across Clemons’ first three seasons, he has received more and more playing time. In 2022 he appeared in 29% of the defensive snaps, in 2023 that jumped to 35%, and then this past season he played in a career-high 54% of the snaps.

Clemons qualified for a level one PPE raise.

According to Over The Cap, “The Level One PPE is earned if a player participates in a certain percentage of a team’s offensive or defensive snaps in two of his first three seasons, or averages that percentage of offensive or defensive snaps over his entire first three years.”

If a player was selected between the third and seventh round they have to average 35% of the snaps. Clemons was selected by the Jets with the No. 117 overall pick in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL draft.

Clemons Is Going to Get a Chance to Compete in 2025
There have been some bumps in the road for Clemons in New York.

Clemons, 27, has swore at fans in the middle of a game on the sidelines. There have also been multiple instances where Clemons has committed dumb penalties that have severely affected his team.

When you watch Clemons tape from the 2024 season, he was often caught out of position when attempting to set the edge in the run game which led to explosive plays and touchdowns in the red zone.

Despite all of that, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic recently said, “he seems likely to stick around to compete for a roster spot in camp.” If the Jets decided to part ways with Clemons this offseason they would save $3.3 million with only $191,024 in dead cap, per Spotrac.

Clemons has appeared in 49 games and has made 18 starts. During that run, Clemons has racked up 7.5 sacks, 15 quarterback hits, and 10 tackles for loss.

A Wrecking Ball Is Coming for the Jets D-Line Room
When a new regime takes over an NFL franchise no one is safe.

NFL Network analyst Brian Baldinger told Jake Asman on “The Jake Asman Show” that the Jets defensive line room was “poorly built” this past season.

.@BaldyNFL didn’t like how the #Jets constructed their D-Line last season.

‘They were poorly built. I don’t wanna trash any guys that were here but they don’t have a fat guy in the middle that can eat up double teams,’ Brian Baldinger told @JakeAsman.

There are a handful of standouts that’ll be key pieces to the rotation in 2025 like Will McDonald, Quinnen Williams, and Jermaine Johnson. However, outside of those three, everyone else has been firmly put on notice.
