BREAKING: Saints Sign Super Bowl winner and Former LSU Great For Running Back Depth as replacement for injured Alvin Kamara

With Alvin Kamara hobbled, the Saints sign a former LSU star for backfield depth.

The New Orleans Saints are signing former Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire. This was first reported on Wednesday afternoon by Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football and since announced as an official move by the team.

Alvin Kamara, the Saints leading rusher, suffered a groin injury during last week’s loss against Washington. The injury puts Kamara’s status in major doubt when the 5-9 Saints play at the 10-4 Green Bay Packers this Monday night.

With Kamara’s availability in serious question, New Orleans is extremely thin in their backfield. Taysom Hill is already out for the rest of the year, leaving the team with often-injured Kendre Miller, ineffective Jamaal Williams, and inexperienced/ineffective Jordan Mims.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire

Edwards-Helaire, 25, was selected in the first round (32nd overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. He played collegiately at LSU, where he rushed for 2,103 yards and added 595 more as a receiver while scoring 24 touchdowns in three years.

Edwards-Helaire had his best production during the Tigers 2019 National Championship season. He rushed for 1,414 yards and an SEC-best 16 touchdowns while catching 55 passes for 453 yards and another score.

In four years with the Chiefs, Edwards-Helaire ran for 1,845 yards and 12 touchdowns with four 100-yard outings and a 4.2 average per carry. He also had 89 receptions for 765 yards and an additional seven touchdowns. As a rookie, Edwards-Helaire led Kansas City with 803 yards rushing for the eventual Super Bowl LV runner-up.

Various injuries caused Edwards-Helaire to miss 16 regular season contests between 2021 and 2023. However, he was still a key contributor to the Chiefs back-to-back Super Bowl championships the last two years.

Edwards-Helaire had yet to play in a regular season contest this season for the 13-1 Chiefs. Kansas City released him on Tuesday. He is in the final year of his rookie contract.

John Hendrix of the Saints News Network confirmed that New Orleans has initially signed Edwards-Helaire to their practice squad. To make room, the Saints announced that they have released DT Kendal Vickers.

Alvin Kamara’s status will be watched closely this week, as the Saints do have an extra day of preparation before facing Green Bay. Expect New Orleans to give strong consideration to elevating Edwards-Helaire to the active roster for their Monday night matchup against the Packers.

BREAKING NEWS: Jets’ Aaron Rodgers Reveals his Retirement Plans Following……..

BREAKING NEWS: Jets’ Aaron Rodgers Reveals his Retirement Plans Following……..

There is a ton of speculation regarding the playing future of New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers himself has now detailed what his plans are following the conclusion of the 2024 season.

According to Zack Rosenblatt, “Aaron Rodgers said he’ll take some time after the season to decide what he wants to do future-wise ‘unless I get released right away.’ But even then, he plans on taking some time to decide his NFL future.”

Apparently, Rodgers plans to decide his future at the end of the season after taking some time. He will do so regardless if the Jets release him or not.

Rodgers was meant to lead the Jets to a playoff berth, and the team was even slated as a dark horse Super Bowl candidate. That has not been the case, and New York has only gone from bad to worse following Robert Saleh being let go.

Saleh was unceremoniously fired after five weeks, leading to the Jets placing Jeff Ulbrich in the driver’s seat. Jets owner Woody Johnson revealed that Ulbrich would have a shot at earning the job permanently depending on how well he did.

The Jets have regressed since Ulbrich took over, posting a current 4-10 record. Rodgers has also not played anywhere near his normal Pro Bowl self. The longtime veteran has thrown 3,255 yards, 23 touchdowns, and eight interceptions.

Though Rodgers’ numbers are not terrible on paper, he has not been able to lead his team to many wins. It would be believed that the Jets are aiming to cut him to save money on the cap, while they also draft a much better prospect in the quarterback-heavy draft.

Rodgers is also 41 years old and his regression has led many to believe that he will finally retire. Following his season-ending Achilles injury in 2023, it was believed he would walk away from the game of football. However, he remained only for the Jets to once again be irrelevant in the AFC.

Though many teams could call Rodgers should the Jets release him, he might not have what it takes to lead anymore, and could find himself as a backup to a young upstart quarterback.

For now, it appears Rodgers will take some time off to assess his future. It would not be the least bit shocking if he decides to walk away from the NFL following this season.

Saint Interim Head Coach Darren Rizzi selected for Rhode Island Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025

Saints interim head coach is one of eight selected for induction to Rams’ school hall of fame

New Orleans Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi has been selected for the University of Rhode Island Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025.

Rizzi played tight end for the Rams from 1988-9992 after starting as a walk-on. At the time he graduated, Rizzi ranked third in program history with 160 catches and he still ranks sixth in the category. He still ranks fifth in program history with 2,426 receiving yards and sixth with 15 touchdown catches.

“This is an incredibly impressive class of Hall of Fame inductees,” Director of Athletics Thorr Bjorn said. “These individuals were among the best of the best, not just among their peers here at Rhode Island, but across the country during their respective collegiate careers. When you take a moment to appreciate their accomplishments, it really allows you to embrace what is a rich history of athletic success at Rhode island.”

Rizzi earned nine All-America honors during his career in Kingston. He was a consensus First Team All-American in 1992, earning the distinction from the American Football Coaches Association, Associated Press, Football News, Don Hansen, Kodak, The Sports Network and Walter Camp. In 1991, Rizzi earned Second Team All-America honors from The Sports Network and Third Team All-America honors from Don Hansen. He had 74 receptions for 1,103 yards in 1992. A two-time All-New England selection, he also earned First Team All-Yankee Conference and All-ECAC honors in 1992.

Rizzi would also work as the head coach for the Rams for one season in 2008 and still celebrates his connection to the university including having touted the school’s accomplishments ahead of a Saints press conference earlier in the season to commemorate his alma-maters achievements on the field this year.

“I am going to start off by giving a shout out to my alma mater, the University of Rhode Island, the Rhody Rams were selected for the FCS, I still call it I-AA, the I-AA playoffs, got a home game, first playoff home game since 1985 so congratulations to the Rams,” Rizzi said. “Go Rams.”

The 2025 Hall of Fame induction will occur Saturday, March 8 as part of the men’s basketball regular-season finale against Fordham.

“I think the league should definitely do something about that” DeAndre Hopkins Blast NFL Amid Chiefs’ Grueling Schedule

“I think the league should definitely do something about that” DeAndre Hopkins Blast NFL Amid Chiefs’ Grueling Schedule

The Chiefs are one of four teams playing three games in 10 days.

The Kansas City Chiefs are one of four NFL teams in the middle of a stretch that sees them playing three games in just 10 days. Along with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans, the Chiefs will play games on Dec. 15, Dec. 21, and Dec. 25.

After all four teams played Week 15 games on Sunday, they will play games on back-to-back short weeks. They face their Week 16 opponent on Saturday, before having just four days before taking on another opponent the following Wednesday, on Christmas Day. All four teams will then have 10 days before their regular season finales on Jan. 5.

The Chiefs began this stretch with a win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. They face the Texans on Saturday, followed by the Steelers on Wednesday.

Chiefs wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, who was traded to the team in October, was critical of the NFL for scheduling three games in 10 days.

“I’ve never played this many games in a short amount of time,” Hopkins told the media on Thursday. “I think the league should definitely do something about that. … As they preach player safety, I don’t feel this is the best situation for any team. I think the league should review that after the season, just to see how they can help player safety in the future.”

For many teams and players, it’s already tough to get through a 17-game season without playing three games in 10 days. Over the course of an NFL season, many players become banged up or are working through injuries, making that rest period between games more crucial. For a Chiefs team dealing with an ankle injury to quarterback Patrick Mahomes, this period could potentially add more strain to his ankle, or to any other players on the team working through injuries.

Mahomes, who is expected to play in Saturday’s game, also spoke critically of playing three games in a 10 day stretch earlier this month.

“It is not a good feeling,” Mahomes told the media of the upcoming stretch. “I’m excited to play on Christmas to hopefully get back from what we did last year, but you never want to play this many games in this short of time. It’s just not great for your body. But at the end of the day, it’s your job, your profession. You have to come to work and do it.”

The good news for the NFL is they will not have to deal with this problem when scheduling games for Christmas Day over the next few years. The NFL only ran into this issue because Christmas Day fell on a Wednesday in 2024. Due to this timing, they had to schedule the teams playing on Christmas to also play on the Saturday before, giving them enough time between those two games. Next season, Christmas will fall on a Thursday, meaning the NFL can approach the timeline like they would for a typical Thursday Night Football game.
