Done Deal: Saints sign former Middle Tennessee State safety, UFL draft pick
The New Orleans Saints have signed defensive back Tra Fluellen, per Pro Football Newsroom’s James Larsen, citing Fluellen’s representatives at TRI Sport Agency. Fluellen wasn’t drafted by the NFL after turning pro out of Middle Tennessee State, but he was selected by the Houston Roughnecks in this year’s UFL College Draft. He’ll have an opportunity waiting in the spring league if things don’t work out in New Orleans.
While it wasn’t immediately clear whether Fluellen was signing with the Saints practice squad or their 53-man roster, he’s probably starting out on the practice squad.
New Orleans had two open spots on their practice squad after signing wide receivers Kevin Austin Jr. and Dante Pettis to the 53-man roster over the weekend, so there’s room for Fluellen to step in right away.
Fluellen didn’t complete athletic testing before this year’s draft while recovering rom an ACL injury he suffered last November, but he weighed in at 6-foot-1/2 and 212 pounds with 31-inch arms. That’s an impressive frame for a defensive back, and he put his size to good use at the college level. He was credited with 104 combined tackles in 2022, 57 of them solo. He also intercepted five passes and deflected 11 more in his 36-game career. Middle Tennessee State has sent great players to the NFL before like Kevin Byard, a two-time All-Pro safety for the Tennessee Titans.
So it’s worth bringing him in for a look through the last month of the season. If Fluellen can run with NFL talent in practice and make an impact on special teams (where he played 541 career snaps in college), he could earn a reserve/future deal to stick around in 2025. That’s his best path forward in chasing his NFL dreams.

SAD: Alvin Kamara injury questionable to return for next game
SAD: Alvin Kamara injury questionable to return for next game
This isn’t what you want to see: Alvin Kamara was seen walking to the New Orleans Saints locker room escorted by members of the team’s medical staff after scoring a long touchdown catch against the Washington Commanders. The Saints later announced that Kamara was dealing with a groin injury and was questionable to return midway through the fourth quarter.
He’s a huge loss. Kamara is the team’s best player and on Sunday brought a couple of much-needed sparks in the passing game, including that touchdown and a field-flipping catch earlier on. We’ll see if he can return. Kamara has dealt with a variety of injuries this season including a broken hand.
In the meantime, expect a heavier workload for second-year running back Kendre Miller and veteran backup Jamaal Williams. But there’s no replacing No. 41.
Expect more update soon..

GREAT: ALVIN KAMARA and THREE Outstanding New Orleans Saints players with the best Hall of Fame chances
GREAT: ALVIN KAMARA and THREE Outstanding New Orleans Saints players with the best Hall of Fame chances…….
The Pro Football Hall of Fame is a place for players whose legacy is cemented as an all-time great. The New Orleans Saints have multiple players on their current roster who have a real possibility of making it to Canton after they retire. Here are four current Saints with the best chance to make the Hall of Fame.
Demario Davis
Demario Davis has made himself known as one of the premier linebackers ever since joining the league. In his illustrious 13-year career, he has been named First-Team All-Pro once, and Second-Team All-Pro four times. He is also a two-time pro bowler.
Davis has tallied 1,347 career tackles which ranks him third among all active players. He has also amassed 106 tackles for loss and 43.5 sacks. These numbers alone should qualify Davis for the Hall of Fame, however, they aren’t even the most impressive thing about his game. Demario Davis has an uncanny ability to stay healthy as he has played in 206 career games, only missing two total.
Demario Davis’ longevity combined with his elite play make him an obvious future candidate for the Hall of Fame.
Cameron Jordan
Cameron Jordan has been consistently one of the top pass rushers in the league after being selected by New Orleans in 2011. Jordan is an eight-time Pro Bowl nominee, a two-time Second-Team All-Pro, and a one-time First-Team All-Pro player.
Part of the reason Jordan’s been so productive is his ability to stay on the field. In his 14-year career, he has only missed one career game. Due to Jordan’s ability to be healthy, he has racked up some impressive stats. Since 2011, he has 118.5 sacks (second among active players), 700 tackles, and 154 tackles for loss (fourth among active players).
Cameron Jordan is regarded as a one of the top edge rushers in his generation, so he should be put in the Hall of Fame and solidified as one of the all time greats.
Alvin Kamara
Alvin Kamara has taken the NFL by storm after entering the league in 2017. He was the 2017 Offensive Rookie of the Year, is a five-time Pro Bowl nominee, and a two-time All-Pro Second-Team selection. In addition to this, Kamara holds the Saints all-time leading rushing yards and touchdowns records.
In just seven years of play, Kamara has accounted for 6,767 rushing yards, 4,704 receiving yards, and 84 total touchdowns. He has had over 1,000 scrimmage yards in every season he’s been in the league. Just to put the cherry on top, Kamara is tied for the most touchdowns ever scored in a game, with six. It’s rare for a running back to have so much success so quickly yet Kamara has done that.
Although Alvin Kamara is the youngest person on this list, he is more than deserving of making the Hall of Fame. He’s already known as a Saints great but should be known as a league great, being inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Tyrann Mathieu
The New Orleans native has been one of the best ball-hawks in the league for 12 seasons. He has three All-Pro First-Team appearances, is a three-time Pro-Bowl player, and is a Super Bowl Champion.
Tyrann Mathieu is tied for the most interceptions by active players with 36. He has been terrorizing quarterbacks ever since being drafted in 2013. Besides just being a ball-hawk, Mathieu has made plays in the run game, achieving 45 tackles for loss in his career.
Mathieu is always highlighted on opposing teams scouting reports as someone who they shouldn’t target. His accomplishments and elite play make him a strong contender for the Hall of Fame.

“A lot of losses in a row, it wasn’t working, a change needed to be made”
Drew Brees hopeful about the Saints’ future despite the team’s current struggles
The New Orleans Saints are having a really disappointing season, but legendary quarterback Drew Brees is optimistic the team will eventually turn things around.
The New Orleans Saints haven’t had much success since Drew Brees retired. The future Hall of Famer last played in the 2020 season, and that’s also the last time the Saints made the playoffs. Since then, it has been nothing but mediocre seasons in New Orleans.
The 2024 season has been the worst year yet, in the post-Brees era. The Saints had a seven-game losing streak, and fired their head coach in the middle of the season. The team has since gone 3-1 after Darren Rizzi took over as interim head coach, and they’ll probably finish the year with another average record. However, that’s not the standard in New Orleans.
During Brees’ time as the starting quarterback for the Saints, making the playoffs was the bare minimum; the team started every season with Super Bowl aspirations. Currently, New Orleans is far from that. As a result, there isn’t much optimism amongst fans about the future. However, Brees is hopeful about the direction of the franchise.
The former quarterback recently sat down with Fox News, and he shared some thoughts about the team. He explained that the firing of Dennis Allen was necessary since the team was struggling how it was, but he still believes New Orleans is a very functional organization, with good veteran leadership, that can get things turned around.
“An organization that knows what it means to put the best product on the field, have a great culture, be able to overcome adversity. Unfortunately, they were on a trend where they had a lot of losses in a row, it wasn’t working, a change needed to be made. Those things happen, but if you ask the leadership on the team, they’re all trending in the right direction right now if they can stay healthy.” – Drew Brees on the Saints (via Fox News)
Drew Brees believes the Saints can get things turned around
While fans have the utmost respect for Brees, they aren’t trying to hear this message, even if he’s the messenger. Things have drastically changed since he retired, and success is no longer the norm in New Orleans. Of course Brees is going to speak highly of the organization, but fans are ready to see change.
From the front office, to the coaching staff, to the roster, Saints fans want a rebuild, so the franchise can once again experience the kind of success that was commonplace when Drew Brees was playing.
