HEART WARMING: Gayle Benson and the NFL pledge $1 million towards terror attack relief
The New Orleans Saints announced Saturday that team owner Gayle Benson partnered with the NFL Foundation to donate $1 million towards relief efforts for victims of the New Year’s Day terror attack. The Saints shared statements from Benson and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell in a press release.
From Benson:
“Our community has experienced an unimaginable tragedy and our collective hearts are broken as we mourn for the victims and survivors on the New Year’s Day terror attack in New Orleans. As a league, our cities and teams compete at the highest levels of competition and share spirited rivalries. Our staffs and players work tirelessly towards achieving our goals and we share in victories and defeats. However, through football we are also united and we stand arm-in-arm against all forms of hatred. We will vanquish terror and fear with an unwavering resolve and purpose rooted in love, compassion and kindness. Our focus has always been on providing aid quickly and effectively, and we are grateful for the collaboration with both the Greater New Orleans Foundation (GNOF) and United Way to ensure that these funds reach those who need them most.”
And from Goodell:
“Our hearts go out to all those affected by the tragic events in New Orleans. The NFL is committed to standing with the resilient community of New Orleans during this difficult time.”
Additionally, the NFL will honor victims of the Bourbon Street attack with a moment of silence before kickoff at each game in Week 18.
Benson has made a number of high-profile donations to good causes in the New Orleans community over the years, and it’s good to see her stepping up here as well.

NFL insider ‘wouldn’t put it against’ Tyler Shough starting at QB for Saints in Week 1

NFL insider ‘wouldn’t put it against’ Tyler Shough starting at QB for Saints in Week 1
The New Orleans Saints shocked a lot of people by picking Tyler Shough early in the second round of the 2025 NFL draft, but not NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero. Pelissero sat down with Jason McIntyre on the Straight Fire podcast to share his thoughts and what he’s heard around the league on this year’s quarterback class, including Shough. He pushed back on McIntyre’s assertions that the Saints picking Shough was the worst QB move in the draft, and said that while Shough’s age and extensive time in college stand out, they aren’t necessarily bad things to NFL coaches.
“This is one of the wildest stats in this draft,” Pelissero said. “The first six years of Tyler Shough’s college career, he never played more than seven games in any of those seasons. Perpetually he was a backup for two years, he had the COVID season at Oregon where he did lead them to a conference title, he had three years at Texas Tech (and) got hurt at all of them, then goes to Louisville, puts it together, and has a pretty good season.”
He added that coaches were impressed by Shough’s performance on the white board and in the film room throughout the pre-draft process, where he expressed familiarity with concepts he’d run before at Oregon or Texas Tech. All told, Shough threw 951 passes across 42 games between his stops at three different schools, but evaluating his game tape is kind of difficult. Pelissero added that he developed some bad habits and shakiness under pressure that wasn’t there before he suffered a series of injuries. If he can overcome that, he just might be a starting quarterback in the NFL.
Pelissero continued: “I’ve talked to several who have said this: There’s a little bit of flinch with him, do you worry? Is he shying away from contact, trying not to get hit because he’s been hurt so much? That’s the number one drawback with Tyler Shough. But he’s your classic, efficient, smart guy who knows a lot about offense. He’s arguably the guy who’s most ready to step in and play right now. Depending on what happens with Derek Carr in New Orleans, you could end up have a Tyler Shough competition with Spencer Rattler in New Orleans, and I wouldn’t put it against Tyler Shough to be the 2025 Week 1 starter for the Saints.”
It sure feels like Carr’s time in New Orleans has run its course, even if it’s his mysterious shoulder injury keeping him out of football this season (which, at the time of writing, is not a sure thing). If the Saints view Shough as a bridge to Kellen Moore’s long-term starter, it just might work out. Maybe the rookie surprises us and plays well enough to hold the job himself. We’ll find out in just a few short months.

A Rising Prospect
In an audacious move that captured both anticipation and skepticism, the New Orleans Saints have placed their hopes in the burgeoning talent of Tyler Shough. The decision to secure this young quarterback in the second round represents more than just a draft pick—it’s a bold bet on future leadership and a transformative era on the field. Shough’s dynamic skill set and potential for growth have quickly made him a figure to watch, even as the move generated divided opinions.
Navigating Mixed Reactions
The strategic gamble on Shough has not come without its critics. Fans and analysts alike have expressed reservations about entrusting the future of the franchise to a relatively unproven commodity. Yet, within the fray of debate, there is a prevailing sense of cautious optimism. The Saints’ decision underlines a willingness to embrace risk for the promise of long-term success, echoing the sentiment that bold moves are sometimes necessary when future greatness is at stake.
Under the Pressure of Legacy
Entering an arena where both immediate results and enduring legacies matter, Shough finds himself under immense pressure to prove his worth. The raw talent he brings to the table is matched by the weight of high expectations from a team eager to redefine its trajectory. This is a defining moment not just for the rookie quarterback but also for an organization that is ready to rewrite its narrative. The challenge is clear: harness the potential, refine the technique, and step confidently into the role of a future cornerstone.
Anticipating a Shining Future
Looking forward, the Saints’ investment in Tyler Shough embodies a blend of calculated risk and hopeful vision. While the decision has sparked a spectrum of reactions, it also represents a commitment to innovation and growth in a fiercely competitive league. The unfolding journey of Shough promises to be as much about individual development as it is about rejuvenating the team’s spirit. In embracing a future laden with both challenges and opportunities, the franchise and its new quarterback are set to inspire a narrative of resilience, ambition, and the transformative power of belief.

New Orleans Saints face pivotal offseason dilemma as Taysom Hill’s future hangs in the balance after injury struggles
An unforeseen twist in the Saints’ offseason narrative unfolds as the club grapples with a critical decision regarding one of its versatile players—a dilemma that echoes through both the locker room and the strategy room.
Emerging Challenge for the Saints
The New Orleans team finds itself navigating a significant fork in the road. Amid a season marked by financial constraints and roster adjustments, the spotlight falls on a player whose journey with the club spans nearly a decade. His connection to the team is profound and his future, however, remains shrouded in uncertainty after a recent, debilitating injury.
Injury Woes and Uncertain Recovery
During his tenure, this multi-talented tight end became a symbol of the Saints’ dynamic approach to the game. Last season, his participation was severely limited by a season-ending torn ACL—restricting him to only eight appearances. This setback not only hinders his ability to contribute on the field but also casts long shadows over the current season. His ongoing recovery process leaves lingering questions on how much further he might miss, and whether he will ever rediscover the form that once made him indispensable.
Financial and Strategic Implications
At a pivotal stage of his career, the player is in the final year of a lucrative four-year contract. With a $40 million deal behind him, his injury has sparked a broader debate about his long-term viability in a league that prizes resilience and consistent performance. The decision the Saints face now goes beyond immediate roster adjustments—it touches on the core of their strategic planning, financial commitments, and the delicate balance between nurturing talent and managing risk under tight salary constraints.
Historical Context and Evolving Identity
Throughout his eight-year NFL journey, his adaptability and versatility have resonated deeply with fans and teammates alike. His evolution on the field mirrors the transformation of the team itself, which has often found strength in overcoming adversity. As the Saints navigate cap challenges and roster turnover, his situation highlights the constant interplay between celebrated past achievements and the unpredictable demands of future success.
Reflecting on the Future
As the offseason unfolds, the Saints stand at a crossroads where decisions made today will ripple into tomorrow. The ambiguity surrounding his recovery not only affects immediate game plans but also symbolizes the perpetual challenge of sustaining excellence in professional sports. In weighing his contributions against emerging risks, the franchise embarks on a journey that could redefine its identity in the coming seasons—a path that merges legacy with the ever-present demand for renewal and reinvention.

CONGRATULATIONS: New Orleans Saint have Appointed Former Legendary QB Drew Brees As News General Manager, following his recent contributions to…
In a monumental move that has electrified the NFL and delighted fans across the Crescent City, the New Orleans Saints have officially named franchise legend Drew Brees as their new General Manager.
The announcement, made at a packed press conference at the Saints’ headquarters in Metairie, comes following months of speculation about Brees’ growing involvement behind the scenes and his recent advisory contributions to the organization.
This appointment marks a historic full-circle moment for one of the NFL’s most beloved and respected figures, who spent 15 seasons as the face of the Saints franchise. Brees’ transition from Hall of Fame-caliber quarterback to front office executive is not only symbolic, but strategic — bringing leadership, football IQ, and championship pedigree back to the organization that he helped redefine.
A Legendary Career Comes Full Circle
Drew Brees retired in 2021 as the NFL’s all-time leader in several passing categories, including completions and passing yards at the time, and as the only quarterback to deliver a Super Bowl title to New Orleans. His heroic performance in Super Bowl XLIV and consistent dominance under center helped turn the Saints from perennial underachievers into one of the league’s most respected franchises.
Since his retirement, Brees has remained close to the game — spending time as an NBC Sports analyst and working with young quarterbacks in offseason training camps. Over the last year, however, his role with the Saints had gradually become more hands-on.
He was frequently spotted at team practices, attended scouting meetings, and even accompanied the front office to the NFL Combine this past March.
Owner and Coach Offer High Praise
Team owner Gayle Benson was effusive in her praise for Brees at the press conference:
“This is a proud day for the Saints and for the city of New Orleans. Drew has always been a champion on and off the field. His leadership, vision, and commitment to excellence are exactly what we need to lead this team into the next era.”
Head coach Dennis Allen, who now finds himself working closely with a former teammate, echoed those sentiments.
“Drew knows what winning looks like. He’s seen it, lived it, and now he’s going to build it. He understands what our locker room needs and what this fan base expects. I’m excited to collaborate with him as we build the future of Saints football.”
Brees’ Vision for the Franchise
Speaking with his usual poise and passion, Brees laid out his vision for the team:
“My time in New Orleans has always been about more than just football — it’s about legacy. It’s about doing things the right way, building from the ground up, and setting a standard of excellence. I’m honored to take on this responsibility and return to the organization in a new capacity.”
He continued, “We have incredible young talent, a strong coaching staff, and a fanbase that is second to none. My goal is to return this team to championship contention — not in the distant future, but now.”
Sources within the organization confirm that Brees has already begun evaluating offseason moves, reviewing the Saints’ scouting department structure, and assessing upcoming contract negotiations. His presence is expected to inject fresh energy into a front office that has struggled to regain its footing in recent years.
Fans and Players React
Saints fans erupted with joy on social media after the news broke, with hashtags like #WelcomeBackBrees and #BreesGM trending nationwide. Outside the team facility, fans gathered in Brees jerseys, waving signs and banners to celebrate the announcement.
Veteran Saints players also expressed their excitement. Linebacker Demario Davis posted on Instagram:
“A true leader returns. Can’t wait to see the greatness you bring from the front office, #9.”
A New Era in New Orleans
The Saints have had a challenging few seasons since Brees’ retirement, with inconsistent quarterback play and missed playoff opportunities. But with Brees now leading the franchise from the executive level, there’s a renewed sense of optimism.
This isn’t just a personnel change — it’s a cultural shift. One of the most respected voices in football now holds the reins of the franchise he once carried on his shoulders.
As Brees himself put it:
“The mission hasn’t changed — only the position. I’m here to help this team win. Let’s get to work.”

Derek Carr’s health casts doubt as New Orleans Saints weigh quarterback options for thrilling Week 1 showdown

Derek Carr’s health casts doubt as New Orleans Saints weigh quarterback options for thrilling Week 1 showdown
A season full of promise and uncertainty awaits, as the New Orleans Saints face critical decisions regarding their quarterback strategy ahead of a high-stakes opening week.
Emerging Questions on the Field
As anticipation for the fall season builds, uncertainty shadows the Saints’ offensive plans. At the heart of this uncertainty is the health of their leading signal-caller, whose ability to take the field remains in doubt. While plans are firmly in place for him to start—provided he regains full fitness—the lingering health issues have prompted a careful review of alternative options.
Balancing Talent and Uncertainty
In scenarios where the veteran’s health falters, the reins would naturally pass to a younger arm with promising potential. The team has signaled that the understudy, who has been gradually earning more opportunities in practice and game situations, is being groomed to assume the responsibilities should circumstances necessitate. This duality presents an intriguing narrative: a seasoned quarterback known for his leadership juxtaposed with an emerging talent eager to seize the moment. One observation within the organization emphasizes, “If the primary quarterback isn’t available, we’re confident in the depth and preparedness of our backup to carry the load.”
Navigating the Season’s Inaugural Week
This strategic pivot holds particular weight as the itinerary features a thrilling Week 1 showdown—an opener where every play and decision reverberates across the league. The coaching staff is meticulously weighing these options, understanding that the performance of the quarterback position will set the tone for what is expected to be a challenging and dynamic season. The careful balance between experience and fresh energy reflects the club’s commitment to both preserving its competitive edge and nurturing the next generation of talent.
Looking Ahead with Strategic Insight
Ultimately, the unfolding situation serves as a reminder of the dynamic nature of professional sports, where every season is not just a test of skill but also of resilience and adaptability. With health concerns at the peak of discussions and emerging talents on standby, the unfolding quarterback saga is poised to offer a richer narrative than by the numbers alone. As the Saints prepare for action, this nuanced approach emphasizes that success often comes from a blend of seasoned leadership and the readiness to innovate on the fly.
In reflecting on this pivotal juncture, one is reminded that the true strength of a team lies in its ability to adapt under pressure. Whether the veteran leads the charge or the burgeoning talent steps into the spotlight, the journey ahead promises moments of both challenge and triumph—a blend that mirrors the very spirit of competitive football.
