Jets Interview ‘Hot’ Name, 3-Time Super Bowl Champ

Several members of the Kansas City Chiefs celebrating another Super Bowl win.
The New York Jets are looking to follow one of the best organizations in the NFL.

This week they interviewed Kansas City Chiefs assistant general manager Mike Borgonzi for their vacant GM position.

ESPN’s Rich Cimini described him as a “hot name” in league circles.

“Has been around a lot of winning. Three Super Bowl rings. Brett Veach’s right-hand man since 2021. Started as low-level assistant under GM Scott Pioli. No previous GM experience. Has been with only one organization. Also linked to Titans’ opening,” Cimini revealed.

One of The Best GM Candidates Available
Play
Borgonzi started off as a tight-end coach for Amherst College in 2002. However, it didn’t take him long to find his true calling at the front office level.

Before joining the Chiefs, he was at Boston College for two seasons as their assistant recruiting coordinator. Then from 2009 to the present day, he has been a key member of the Chiefs organization.

“Borgonzi has been with the Chiefs for 16 years. He has done every job under the sun over there: pro scouting, college scouting, budget managing – like all of these different things. He has been the assistant GM now for three years where it’s like okay you’re along side the hip of Brett Veach where you’re a part of every massive decision for this organization with him and Andy Reid. You’re helping run drafts, helping run free agency, dealing with street free agency, waiver wires,” Jets analyst Connor Rogers said on “Badlands.”

Sam McDowell, a columnist for The Kansas City Star, said on social media, “It’s long past due for Chiefs assistant GM Mike Borgonzi to get a chance to run a team.”

“In terms of resume, not many guys in this cycle [are] more qualified to get a shot at the GM chair,” Rogers added on X previously Twitter.

Jets Might Want to Pull Off a Chiefs Double Dip Chip
Borgonzi wasn’t the only member of the Chiefs the Jets kicked the tires on.

The same day that they interviewed Borgonzi, they also interviewed Matt Nagy from Kansas City.

Nagy has been at the NFL level since 2008. For eight of those 17 seasons, he has been a member of the Chiefs in some capacity.

The first five seasons were spent with the Philadelphia Eagles as an intern, coaching assistant, and as a quality control coach.

The complicated evaluation for Nagy is what he did for all of those years with the Chiefs. Andy Reid runs the offense so anyone with offensive labels isn’t running the full ship. That means Nagy has to do a really good job in the interview room explaining his role.

Nagy did get a chance to be a head coach with the Chicago Bears from 2018 through 2021. During those four seasons, Nagy finished with a 34-31 record, won a division title, went to the playoffs twice, and the highlight was his first year when he won 12 games.

There is a lot to like on that resume but for whatever reason public perception doesn’t look back fondly on his time with Chicago.

If the Jets hire Borgonzi that doesn’t necessarily mean they have to hire Nagy, but that is a natural connection to make. With the Jets already having interviewed both individuals, a discount double check remains a distinct possibility.

According Multiple Reports from ESPN, New York Jet Edge Rusher Haason REddicks Officially terminates his Contracts and Leaves the Jets Franchise due to…..

Jets beat writer: Haason Reddick ‘wouldn’t mind going back to Philadelphia’
Reddick requested a trade from the Jets and hasn’t played for them, while Bryce Huff has been invisible for the Eagles as a pass rusher.
During the 2024 offseason, the Philadelphia Eagles traded Haason Reddick to the New York Jets, and signed Jets free agent Bryce Huff to a three-year deal worth $51 million. It was a swap of edge rushers, even if the two players weren’t technically traded for each other.

The swap hasn’t worked out for either team so far. Reddick held out throughout the entirety of Jets training camp and has missed each of their first three games. Huff has played 80 snaps for the Eagles, and has 1 tackle (0 solo tackles). In the Eagles’ Week 3 win in New Orleans, Huff was relegated to situational pass rusher status, playing just 18 snaps, or 32 percent of the team’s defensive stats. He has been a liability against the run, and invisible as a pass rusher.

A common solution to the lack of an edge rush among many Eagles fans? Bring Reddick back via trade!

According to Jets beat writer Rich Cimini of ESPN via his “Flight Deck” podcast (the 9/25/24 podcast here), Reddick “wouldn’t mind getting traded back to the Eagles.” Cimini’s words:

Haason-Reddick-Eagles-Giants-Warmups-Week-18-NFL-2023.jpg

“Bryce Huff, probably one of the more disappointing free agents in the NFL right now, and get this, 77 snaps right now on defense (#JimmyNote: it’s 80, but whatever), only 1 tackle, 0 pressures, 0 quarterback hits, 0 sacks. So essentially, he’s done in 77 snaps (again, 80) what Haason Reddick has done with no snaps, which is nothing. I don’t think that’s an indictment on Huff. I mean, we know he’s a good player, and so I do believe the Jets made a mistake by letting him go. It’s just that he’s not a good fit in the Eagles’ system. And clearly Vic Fangio, their defensive coordinator has not embraced Huff. And so that’s on the Eagles. They screwed up that signing. They’ve taken a good player and they’re misusing him.

Haason-Reddick-Eagles-Giants-Warmups-Week-18-NFL-2023.jpg

“Could he get traded to the Jets? Let’s put it this way. A little birdie told me that Reddick I don’t think would be opposed to something like that. I think Reddick is so frustrated with the Jets’ situation — of course he did request a trade in August — that he wouldn’t mind going back to Philadelphia. Again, heard it from a little birdie. Take it for what it’s worth. Could that trade happen? Reddick for Huff? Boy, that would be one of the more bizarre trades in NFL history. A lot of things would have to fall into place, which makes it kind of far-fetched, but it’s an interesting situation to look at nonetheless.”

To begin, yes, it certainly appears that the Eagles made a bad signing when they gave Huff $17 million per year, but the idea that Huff’s poor play “is not an indictment on Huff” is, uh, simply wrong? He has done nothing well.

Haason-Reddick-Eagles-Giants-Warmups-Week-18-NFL-2023.jpg

Reddick’s reported desire to be traded back to Philly isn’t surprising. At some point he’s going to have to play for the Jets, or his current contract — which, of course, he is unhappy with — wouldn’t expire until after the 2025 season when it is currently scheduled to expire after 2024. There’s a more detailed explainer on his contract situation via CBS’ Joel Corry here. Including the playoffs, Reddick had 30.5 sacks and 6 forced fumbles in his two seasons with the Eagles. If he has to report without a new contract at some point anyway, his desire to do so with the Eagles rather than the Jets would make sense.

A trade for Reddick maybe isn’t that crazy, however, should that scenario play out, it almost certainly would not include Huff, as that would result in a substantial amount of dead money on the Eagles’ cap.

Aaron Rodgers Could Join Current Playoff Team In 2025 says NFL Insider

New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers could reportedly join the Pittsburgh Steelers during the upcoming offseason, according to veteran NFL insider Peter King during a recent episode of the Let’s Go podcast.

“I think we have seen Russell Wilson hit a wall, and whether [head coach] Mike Tomlin is even thinking about it…” King said of the Steelers’ quarterback situation.

“If I were the Pittsburgh Steelers, knowing that I’ve got [defensive tackle] Cam Heyward, [edge rusher] T.J. Watt — I got guys on defense with their expiration dates not long in the future — I would want to come in and try to get a quarterback who could make me competitive with [the AFC North Division rival] Baltimore [Ravens] and Cincinnati [Bengals] in 2025. And that guy, to me, is Aaron Rodgers.”

Rodgers is currently signed with the Jets through the 2025 season, however, is schedule to make an un-guaranteed $37.5 million on a $23.5 million salary cap number and could either be traded or cut if New York decides to move on this offseason.

The four-time MVP suffered a season-ending Achilles injury during his first drive with the Jets in 2023 and experienced one of the worst seasons of his career in 2024, leading the team to a 5-14 record.

Wilson signed a one-year contract with the Steelers after being released by the Denver Broncos last offseason. The former Super Bowl champion missed Pittsburgh’s first six games before going 6-5 as a starter in 2024.

The Steelers are the No. 6 seed in the AFC and will face the division rival Baltimore Ravens in the Wild Card Round on Saturday (January 11), having previously won at home in November and lost on the road in December during their annual two matchups

CONGRATULATIONS: New Orleans Saints defensive end Can Jordan Wins the 2025 Bart Starr Award recipient

Cam Jordan, a defensive end for the New Orleans Saints, will receive the 2025 Bart Starr Award for his exceptional character, integrity, and leadership both on and off the football field. The award will be presented at the 38th annual NFL-sanctioned Super Bowl Breakfast. The honor will be presented during the Super Bowl Breakfast 2025 on Saturday, February 8 from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m. CT at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, where Jordan plays. The 38th annual NFL-sanctioned event brings together fans, local business leaders, and football icons for a morning of festivities prior of Super Bowl Sunday.

In addition to his contributions on the field, Jordan is active in giving back to the New Orleans community. The Cam Jordan Foundation was founded to improve the lives of children and the community. It collaborates with groups such as the Youth Empowerment Project and the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. It focuses on offering resources, youth development activities, and presenting creative experiences to help young people grow and have more opportunities.

Jordan’s charity, in addition to annual turkey giveaways and back-to-school supply handouts, offers youth sports programs for needy children. His most recent outstanding gesture of kindness was to make a big donation to those most affected by the terrorist attack in the French Quarter. Jordan, the Saints’ first-round draft pick in 2011, is an eight-time Pro Bowler, a member of the NFL’s 2010 All-Decade squad, and the Saints’ all-time sack leader (121.5). He attended the University of California, Berkeley, where he was named All-Pac-10 in 2010. He and his wife, Nikki, have four kids.

Jordan is also the fourth Saints player to earn the award, tying the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the most Bart Starr award winners in history. “Cam Jordan exemplifies excellence in character and integrity both on and off the football field,” stated Corwin Anthony, Executive Director of the Super Bowl Breakfast. “These character qualities, and his heart and passion for giving back to the New Orleans community, align with the mission and legacy of the late Bart Starr.” Jordan joins a lengthy list of famous Bart Starr Award recipients:
