Jurgen Klopp target another İlkay Gündoğan thanks to £70m Liverpool transfer
Liverpool have been linked with a transfer move for a player who depicts shades of a certain İlkay Gündoğan, who once thrived under Jürgen Klopp, in Alexis Mac Allister.
The Reds are destined to finish the season without a trophy, and Klopp’s team is presently fifth in the Premier League standings, so unless things drastically change over the next few weeks, Anfield won’t host Champions League football next season.
For Liverpool, two or three midfielders are a high priority, with Alexis MacAllister being near the top of the shortlist.
The Times reports that Klopp is reportedly interested in bringing the midfielder from Brighton and Hove Albion, who has had a true breakout season on the south coast, to his squad along with Mason Mount and Ryan Gravenberch.
In fact, the South American recently helped Argentina win the World Cup, and talkSPORT reports that he might soon make the move to Anfield for £70 million.
After some disappointing early performances, Lionel Scaloni was brave enough to switch his preferred lineup, giving the Seagulls midfielder a starting position alongside Enzo Fernández, who was later named the Young Player of the Tournament soon after signed for Chelsea.
Mac Allister could be a nice transfer, offering enough quality to be signed as a different but capable replacement for the BVB captain. Klopp is eager to upgrade the Reds’ midfield this summer after being linked with Jude Bellingham for the entire season before pulling out of a deal recently due to financial worries.
The Brighton star has gradually improved in England under Graham Potter and, most recently, Roberto De Zerbi since being acquired from Argentinos Juniors in the winter transfer window of 2019. He’s only 24 years old, yet he virtually resembles a player that Klopp has previously worked with.
With Borussia Dortmund, Klopp won the Bundesliga twice in a row during his time there and also advanced to the Champions League final. Although players like Mario Götze and Robert Lewandowski made headlines, lkay Gündoan was an vital part in his well-oiled machine.
The German midfielder was subtle but extremely important to BVB. He painted himself as a very savvy performer as Klopp’s conductor by displaying true technical proficiency when in possession and an inherent ability to offer control despite the commotion on the pitch.
Gündoan has never been the most physically fit, but his shortcomings have been covered up by his fast thinking. He has shown a great ability suddenly shift into a scoring danger throughout his career in addition to his shrewdness on the pitch, netting 13 goals for Manchester City in the 2020–21 Premier League season.
Though he is 32 years old and it is natural to assume that his finest performances are behind him, Pep Guardiola, who saw him perform well for Jurgen Klopp before bringing him to Manchester in the summer of 2016, still starts him frequently at the Etihad Stadium.
Gündoan’s future is uncertain at the moment because Manchester City has yet to extend his contract. The Athletic claims that there are still “significant differences” between the parties, and Barcelona is now interested in a free transfer.
Given the player’s age, it is highly doubtful that Liverpool and Klopp would agree to a meeting, but Mac Allister resembles him in many ways.
He is versatile, smart, technical and slight, operating as a hybrid controller and a scorer for Brighton this term. Whether he’s deployed as a number 10 or as a holding midfielder next to Moisés Caicedo at the Amex Stadium, he is always involved in proceedings, and Argentina realized that in the winter.

Jayden Danns has claimed it was ‘a dream come true’ to score a brace in Liverpool’s 3-0 FA Cup win over Southampton.
On Wednesday night, the 18-year-old found the back of the net twice in the second-half – after Lewis Koumas had opened the scoring – to help wrap up the win.
Danns found the back of the net initially after being played through by Harvey Elliott and applying a neat chip over the Saints goalkeeper.
He doubled his tally shortly afterwards after pouncing on a loose ball and making no mistake in a first-time finish, which ensured the win for the hosts.
Speaking to ITV afterwards, Danns said: ‘It’s a dream come true, I’ve supported the club since birth so to come on and score at the Kop end was unreal.
‘It doesn’t feel real to me, it feels like I’m in a movie. I don’t think I’ll sleep tonight!’
‘The second one was pure joy, I didn’t think it would come to me. I was happy with one, but when two come I just went sliding. I lost all composure.
‘[My dad, Neil] said last time when I made my debut he was crying so I don’t know what he’s going to be doing now.
‘He’s in the stands watching and so is my mum, brother, sister and nan. It’s unbelievable.’
It’s been a whirlwind week for Danns, who made his first-team debut seven days ago and has played at Wembley in a cup final, as well as his FA Cup heroics.
Afterwards, Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp compared Danns, and the rest of Liverpool’s young team, with darts World Championship runner-up Luke Littler.
‘It is a little bit like the new darts sensation, it is fine for tonight,’ said Klopp.
‘Tomorrow, leave the boys in the corner. Everyone who is with us, we should have our moments, they will have more moments than we expect.
‘Exceptional talents, of course it is not natural that a boy aged 18 is as calm as you like.
‘The second goal, calm as you like, he saw when Conor (Bradley) shot that the goalie cannot take it.
‘Don’t forget it when the transfer window opens, don’t (ask for) 12 signings!’

Diogo Jota scored the 50th goal of his Liverpool career to seal a 2-0 win at Burnley on Boxing Day.
Jota had missed Liverpool’s previous eight games with a hamstring injury but he looked sharp after coming off the bench in the 84th minute at Turf Moor.
The Portugal forward came on for Darwin Nunez, who had earlier fired the Reds into a sixth-minute lead with a low strike from 20 yards.
Cody Gakpo and Harvey Elliott had goals disallowed before Jota wrapped up a deserved away victory in added time.
Jota collected a neat pass from Luis Diaz before drilling a low shot past James Trafford from a narrow angle.
Burnley keeper Trafford had earlier proven difficult to beat, making eight saves.
Liverpool’s win on Boxing Day took Jurgen Klopp’s men top of the Premier League table.
But Arsenal can regain top spot by beating West Ham on Thursday night.

It Doesn’t Look Good’: Klopp Provides Update on Joel Matip’s Injury Situation, Confirms He Will be out for a long time
‘It Doesn’t Look Good’: Klopp Provides Update on Joel Matip’s Injury Situation, Confirms He Will be out for a long time
After Joel Matip hobbled off the field during Liverpool’s 4-3 victory over Fulham on Sunday, manager Jurgen Klopp of Liverpool has expressed concerns that the player may be out for an extended period of time.
Midway through the second half at Anfield, the center back grabbed his right knee and was quickly replaced by Ibrahima Konate.
Regarding Matip’s possible layoff, Klopp acknowledged after the game that it was unlikely to be a “short one,” but he did not provide a more upbeat update on Tuesday before Liverpool’s trip to Sheffield United tomorrow.
“It appears unfavorable,” stated Klopp. “The scan is not yet complete.” We’re not sure how long.
Better news for supporters of Liverpool was that two more players were nearing full fitness.
Jurgen Klopp has suggested Matip is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines
In Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City, Diogo Jota and Alisson both sustained injuries, but Klopp indicated they are getting closer to joining the team again.
Yesterday, Jota was jogging outside. He is not participating in team training, but everything is moving in the correct manner, Klopp continued.
“Alisson will not be involved tomorrow, but he is closer.”
Liverpool’s backup goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher struggled against Fulham in Alisson’s absence, giving up three goals
However, Klopp claimed he has no reservations about Kelleher’s ability and refused to place responsibility on the goalkeeper.
“I believe he performed admirably [against Fulham], but we give up two goals,” he remarked.
“Harry Wilson was not a fortunate one.” We are front-footed goalkeepers, according to Ali and our goalkeeping coach in the second one. Such incidents occur; they have nothing to do with quality; rather, they stem from philosophical issues.
