Sir Jim Ratcliffe will take control of Manchester United’s football department once his £1.3billion deal with the Glazers is ratified by the Premier League over the next four to six weeks

Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been told to begin his rule over Manchester United’s football department by ruthlessly culling 10 players.

England duo Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw have both been named by former Premier League striker Dean Saunders on his list of “passengers” who should be flogged. Chairman of petrochemicals conglomerate INEOS and boyhood United fan Ratcliffe last week agreed a £1.3billion deal with the Glazer family which will give him a 25 per cent stake in the club and allow him to take charge of the Red Devils’ football operations.

United have been in free fall this season, losing 13 of their 27 games in all competitions, with manager Erik ten Hag relieving some of the pressure on his position after his side produced a dramatic 3-2 comeback win at home to Aston Villa on Boxing Day. Still, there’s set to be a massive overhaul on and off the pitch under Ratcliffe, who’s been advised by Saunders on which players to axe.

Luke Shaw

The ex-Villa, Liverpool and Derby County striker started off with three misfiring forwards and claimed on talkSPORT: “Rashford has been there too long. [Anthony] Martial, I’ll drive him to the airport. Antony, drive him to the airport.

“Luke Shaw has been there too long. [Diogo] Dalot’s not good enough. [Raphael] Varane, he’s a good player obviously but it’s not worked for him. Ten Hag’s tried to get rid of Varane.

“Jonny Evans is not good enough now, so there’s the back four. [Aaron] Wan-Bissaka, he’s tried to get rid of him. He’s got rid of Fred. [Scott] McTominay, the manager has obviously shown he doesn’t think he’s good enough, but he gets goals.

“He’s not good enough to play for Man United, in my opinion. If you play for Man United in midfield, you’ve got to be one of the best players in the world in midfield. You’re not playing for Crystal Palace.

Saunders then named Red Devils outcast Jadon Sancho as his 10th player to join the exodus, with the £72million signing last featuring in August before a fall-out with Ten Hag.

Erik ten Hag releases shortlist of Man united transfer wishlist following Anthony Martial's decision

“I’m just thinking off the top of my head… Sancho, Antony, Martial, you’re looking at what, £200m or something like that just for them?” the 75-capped Wales international added. “Passengers. Absolute passengers.”

Antony

Obviously, those 10 players won’t be sold in the January transfer window but could depart at a later date. Wan-Bissaka, Varane and Martial are all out of contract at the end of this season and will become free agents unless United intervene. As part of the deal, which is yet to be ratified by the Premier League, Ratcliffe must be consulted on all contract and transfer decisions next month.

Onana the Hero: Fans can’t believe what Southampton did seconds before penalty vs Man Utd

Onana the Hero: Fans can’t believe what Southampton did seconds before penalty vs Man Utd

Fans were left confused after seeing what Southampton players did before their missed penalty against Manchester United.

The Saints were given an opportunity to take the lead at St Mary’s on 32 minutes after debutant Tyler Dibling was brought down in the area by Diogo Dalot.

Cameron Archer stepped up to take the spot kick, but Andre Onana got down well to his right to keep it out.

United then cleared, and scored themselves just two minutes later through defender Matthijs de Ligt.

It was therefore a nightmare passage of play for Russell Martin’s side as they look to register their first point in the Premier League season.

Marcus Rashford then made it 2-0 before half-time with a curling 25-yard finish with his right foot.

But prior to the missed penalty, fans were surprised at what Southampton chose to do.

Ben Brereton Diaz looked as if he was about to take the penalty, but stepped back and allowed Archer to take it instead.

There was then a significant wait before the penalty was taken, with Archer missing from 12 yards.

“They want me out of the club but i am determined to stay at Man United and fight for his place with £375k-a-week midfielder to REJECT any offers to move to Turkey

“They want me out of the club but i am determined to stay at Man United and fight for his place with £375k-a-week midfielder to REJECT any offers to move to Turkey

Casemiro is determined to fight for his place at Manchester United and will reject any offers to sign for Galatasaray before the transfer window closes in Turkey next week.

The Istanbul club are weighing up a move for the Brazil midfielder who was substituted at half-time in United’s defeat to Liverpool at Old Trafford on Sunday after his mistakes led to two goals by Luis Diaz

It was the latest setback for Casemiro whose form has dipped since an outstanding first season at United following his £70million move from Real Madrid in 2022.

The 32-year-old has been left out of Brazil’s squad for the forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ecuador and Paraguay.

His place at United is under threat from Manuel Ugarte after the Uruguayan arrived in a £50.5millon deal from Paris Saint-Germain last week, but it’s understood that Casemiro has no interest in leaving Old Trafford at the moment.

He is the club’s top earner on £375,000-a-week and it’s unlikely Galatasaray, who have until a week on Friday to make a move before the Turkish deadline, could afford his wages.

United are expecting Casemiro back in training after the international break to prepare for their next game against Southampton.

The club have been open to offers for the five-time Champions League winner, and former football director John Murtough travelled to Saudi Arabia in December to gauge the level of interest.

However, there were no bids before the Saudi Pro League window closed on Monday night.

VAR told they made ‘baffling’ error during Liverpool’s win over Man United as former striker hits out at decision at Old Trafford

The VAR for Liverpool’s 3-0 dismantling of Man United on Sunday has been told that they made a ‘baffling’ mistake.

New Liverpool manager Arne Slot made it three wins from three as his side cruised to a 3-0 victory at Old Trafford.

Luis  Diaz netted twice before Mo Salah sealed the three points with a crisp finish as Erik ten Hag found himself back under huge pressure once again.

And it could have been more if an incident during the second half had been reviewed.

United new boy Noussair Mazraoui appeared to catch Cody Gakpo from behind in the area but referee Anthony Taylor played the advantage which resulted in Darwin Nunez shooting wide.

Replays showed the challenge was made in the area and former Liverpool striker Neil Mellor believes VAR should have stepped in to award the penalty.

VAR John Brooks and assistant Harry Lennard did not review it and Mellor was left baffled

He tweeted two images to justify his thoughts, writing: ‘referee sees foul on Gakpo and indicates advantage… Nunez shoots wide,’ Mellor wrote.

‘Contact was inside the area… so why hasn’t VAR told him he was right and contact in area so should be a pen? Baffling decision.’

The decision had little impact on the result with United well beaten by their rivals on the day.
