Saint Owner Gayle Benson sends shocking message supporting new head coach Kellen Moore

The New Orleans Saints introduced Kellen Moore as their new head coach on Thursday, and it was team owner Gayle Benson who took the podium first. Benson thanked general manager Mickey Loomis and his team for leading a comprehensive search that identified Moore as the right fit for the job, and she pledged to give Moore her full support.

“Kellen, you have my full commitment to doing whatever it takes to deliver another Lombardi Trophy to our city,” Benson said.

Not every team enjoys that financial support. Joe Burrow has to petition Cincinnati Bengals ownership every offseason to invest in their roster and retain talent. We can agree or disagree that the constant restructures are a good strategy or not, but few owners are willing to cut lucrative signing bonus checks every summer like Benson. She also made heavy investments in remodeling the Caesars Superdome ahead of Super Bowl LIX.

As for what appealed about Moore to Benson? She said he met the criteria they were searching for.

“When we began this coaching search, we were all aligned,” Benson said, adding that they wanted a coach who was “exceptionally bright, creative and a tremendous leader.” She added that Moore has “been a winner in every stage of his career.”

Moore enjoyed tremendous success as a college quarterback at Boise State and has steadily risen in the ranks of offensive coordinators around the NFL. Now he gets the chance to lead a team for himself at the highest level of competition.

GOOD NEWS: Saints are using Alvin Kamara to tease Shedeur Sanders to join the New Orleans as deal set

GOOD NEWS: Saints are using Alvin Kamara to tease Shedeur Sanders to join the New Orleans as deal set…….

After Shedeur Sanders threw around 60 passes at Colorado’s pro day on Friday, something shifted. The quarterback prospect was suddenly being linked to the New Orleans Saints. After seeming like a lock for the top six during the early part of draft season, there’s now a belief that Sanders could slide and be available for the Saints at No. 9.

While everyone has to wait until draft night to see if that will actually happen, neither side is hiding their interest in each other. Speaking with the media on the day of the pro day, Sanders expressed that he’s a fan of Kellen Moore the player, and thinks it’d be great to learn from him since he has the experience of playing quarterback.

That same day, Deion Sanders, Shedeur’s father and coach, made it known how much he likes the black and gold colors, as well as the city of New Orleans and it’s food.

With all of the buzz surrounding the younger Sanders and the Saints, fans were intrigued to see New Orleans running back Alvin Kamara in Boulder, Colorado, attending one of the Buffs’ practices. Of course, the Saints played into the speculation, reposting the picture with the caption “Legendary linkup.” With “legendary” being Shedeur Sanders’ catchphrase, fans quickly picked up what New Orleans’ social media team was putting down.

Saints lean into Shedeur Sanders speculation as Alvin Kamara visits Colorado

To be fair, this was likely a coincidence. Since Deion Sanders took over at Colorado, they’ve become the most high-profile college program, so they have NFL stars and celebrities on campus almost everyday. Additionally, Kamara’s personal trainer, Andreu Swasey, is the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for Colorado, so the star running back was making sure to check in with him as well.

Those facts don’t mean New Orleans doesn’t have serious interest in Shedeur Sanders, though. The team has been doing work on all of the quarterback prospects, including Sanders, so the interest is real. Draft night will determine if the Saints actually have the chance to select him, and if they will.

Michael Strahan says Shedeur Sanders in this position because of his father

Shedeur Sanders will find out his first NFL home in less than two weeks. While he’s projected to slide, no one can accurately predict where he’ll end up. ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. has him going to the New Orleans Saints at No. 9 overall, which becomes more favorable with Derek Carr likely out for 2025.

Sanders has been one of the most talked about NFL prospects in decades. However, there are a lot of differing opinions about his game. He shows a great game on tape, but some have argued about being overly confident.

Pro Football Hall-of-Famer Michael Strahan gave his honest opinion going into the 2025 NFL Draft. During an appearance on ‘7PM in Brooklyn’ podcast with Carmelo Anthony, Prime’s business partner talked about Shedeur and the lead up to his NFL moment.

“I think Deion has given him all the best advice he can get and that’s why he’s in a position that he’s in,” Strahan said. “Once he comes into the league, he’s going to understand. I know he’s brash. He’s cocky, arrogant, he has that. There are some people who will try to knock you off that pedestal no matter how great you are. So, I think he’s gonna have to display at some point some humility.”

Sanders certainly didn’t disappoint during his time on the field. He reportedly completed 58-of-63 throws during the workout, with three of the five incompletions coming from receiver drops. His performance reportedly exceeded expectations for many NFL personnel in attendance. “He throws a really catchable ball,” one NFL executive told FOX Sports. “He’s definitely a pocket guy, but athletic enough to buy time and make plays.”

The flashy bravado for Sanders is in his blood. His father was ‘Prime Time’ and one of the greatest athletes in the modern era of football. The critics might talk, but Shedeur’s game speaks for itself.

BREAKING: Saints to rival Bucs with Shedeur Sanders now set to replace injured Saints Quarterback Derek Carr with New Orleans plans Altered

BREAKING: Saints to rival Bucs with Shedeur Sanders now set to replace injured Saints Quarterback Derek Carr with New Orleans plans Altered

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers might not face quarterback Derek Carr when they play the New Orleans Saints in 2025. However, they might have to face one of the top rookies on the board in his stead.

It appears as though Carr is dealing with a shoulder injury which might impinge on his ability to play this season, according to NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport. Rapoport broke the news late Friday afternoon.

Carr missed seven games in 2024 due to hand and oblique injuries, but the shoulder issue is something new. Carr might have surgery on the shoulder and if he does, he will more than likely spend the season on injured reserve.

Should Carr be in a position where he is figured to miss significant time, it will put the Saints in the same position they were in last season, which got one coach terminated and the interim coach not retained.

They will be compelled to go back to the Spencer Rattler-Jake Haener, Merry Go Round. Neither quarterback did much last year and alas the Saints are picking in the top 10.

New coach Kellen Moore might decide its time for him to get his own quarterback in the NFL Draft. The Saints have been tied to Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart, but not necessarily at the No. 9 selection. He has been viewed as a late first-round, early second-round candidate.

However, the Saints might take a closer look at Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders should be slide out of the top five and down to New Orleans at the ninth pick.

ESPN’s NFL insider and former NFL executive Louis Riddick posted on X Friday night “that 9th pick gonna be all kinds of interesting.” The post was reposted by Deion Sanders with a pair of eyeball emojis.

Sanders would be a good pick for the Saints and he would come at a good value. Once projected to go to the Cleveland Browns or the New York Giants in the top three selections, Sanders would be a great value pick at nine. If they waited until the second round, or tried to trade back into the first round, Dart would be a good play later on.

New Orleans is not going to want to wait and will probably want to solidify the position at the top of the round.

If so, Sanders is the safer play. They cannot wait around and see if Dart will be around later and he is not worth a top 10 pick.

HEARTBREAKING: Saints QB Derek Carr Suffers Major Shoulder Injury and Will be out for the Season

New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr is dealing with a significant shoulder injury that can threaten his 2025 NFL season, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

The Saints have been connected to multiple quarterbacks in the draft and may now have a more urgent need. New Orleans has met with Miami quarterback Cam Ward, Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders, and Ole Miss’s Jaxson Dart.

There were rumors throughout the offseason revolving around a potential agreement to part ways between Carr and the Saints before New Orleans ultimately restructured Carr’s contract, making his $40 million this year fully guaranteed. The restructure proved the Saints’ commitment to trying to compete and delay a rebuild.

New Orleans was still in the quarterback market but didn’t want to be forced to draft a quarterback. Now, with Carr potentially missing significant time, the Saints may have to be more aggressive in the quarterback market.

The Saints could also choose to stick with sophomore Spencer Rattler and add a veteran through free agency. Rattler has fans within the building, and many believe he could be the starter. Names such as Aaron Rodgers, Carson Wentz, and Tyler Huntley could work as bridge/backups until the 2026 NFL Draft.

Carr has dealt with injuries throughout his two seasons in New Orleans and finished with a 14-13 record with the Saints. In 2024, Carr threw for 2,145 yards and 15 touchdowns to 5 interceptions in 10 games.

With less than two weeks until the draft, the Saints find themselves in a spot needing a quarterback. There has been a lot of talk about Shedeur Sanders possibly dropping to ninth overall and landing in New Orleans. Now, with an injury threatening Carr’s season, the Saints may be more inclined to pull the trigger.
