Mauricio Pochettino said Chelsea are “working so hard” on more signings after debutant Axel Disasi’s equaliser secured a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at Stamford Bridge in the Argentinian manager’s first competitive game in charge of the club.

Chelsea are reportedly set to beat Liverpool to the signing of Moises Caicedo in a British record transfer that could rise as high as £115 million ($146m) – but Pochettino claimed he knew no more about the protracted deal for the Brighton & Hove Albion player, who was given permission to speak to Liverpool on Friday.

Luis Diaz gave the visitors the lead from an exquisite Mohamed Salah pass after 18 minutes, sliding in to reach the Egypt forward’s defence-splitting delivery and beat Robert Sanchez on the goalkeeper’s bow for his new club.

Salah looked to have added to his perfect six-game run of scoring in Liverpool’s opening matches of the Premier League season, only to be deemed offside after breaking free and clipping a delicate finish over Sanchez in the 29th minute.

Composed Chilwell went around Liverpool number one Alisson and slotted in shortly afterwards but was denied by one of several VAR checks, the pattern continuing after the break when the lively Nicolas Jackson was not penalised for handling a delivery inside his own penalty area.

Alisson had to be alert to parry a Chilwell strike from a tight angle and prevent Jackson from opening his Chelsea account when he burst onto a long Reece James ball and accelerated away from Ibrahima Konte.

Chelsea remain without a home win since March 4 and visit West Ham United next Sunday before Luton Town are their visitors on August 25.

Liverpool, who also had a late chance through substitute Darwin Nunez, host Bournemouth on Saturday, having extended their unbeaten record in first games of the campaign to 11 seasons.

Video: Moment of magic from Martin Odegaard leads to Arsenal opener

Arsenal have opened the scoring in their huge Champions League match with FC Porto as the Gunners level the tie at 1-1.

Mikel Arteta’s team needed to score first having been 1-0 down from the first leg and a second would have made life very difficult for the North London club to progress.

That came just before halftime when some beautiful footwork from Martin Odegaard led to the Norweigan playing in Leandro Trossard.

The Belgian star remained composed and finished clinically as Arsenal will now turn up the heat in search of a second.
