Two Andre Onana errors and a thunderous strike from Kerem Akturkoglu on a stormy night in Istanbul left Manchester United’s Champions League hopes hanging by a thread as they twice blew two-goal advantages to draw 3-3 at Galatasaray.

United must now beat Bayern Munich on the final matchday and hope the Turkish side draw at FC Copenhagen to qualify for the knockout phase. The Danes, who drew 0-0 in Munich later on Wednesday, could have knocked them out with victory over the German champions.

Erik ten Hag’s side had looked on course to escape from this wet and wild encounter with a crucial victory with 20 minutes to play but sub Akturkoglu – a goalscorer at Old Trafford last month – hammered home an equaliser to the delight of the home fans, who had created an incredible noise throughout.

The visitors had only themselves to blame, though, with Onana at fault for both Hakim Ziyech free-kick goals before Anthony Martial and Facundo Pellistri wasted last-gasp chances to win it after Bruno Fernandes had hit a post.

United are now relying on other results on the final day after FC Copenhagen drew 0-0 at Bayern Munich.

They need to win their final Group A game at home to Bayern and hope the result in the other game ends in a draw.

Video: Moment of magic from Martin Odegaard leads to Arsenal opener

Arsenal have opened the scoring in their huge Champions League match with FC Porto as the Gunners level the tie at 1-1.

Mikel Arteta’s team needed to score first having been 1-0 down from the first leg and a second would have made life very difficult for the North London club to progress.

That came just before halftime when some beautiful footwork from Martin Odegaard led to the Norweigan playing in Leandro Trossard.

The Belgian star remained composed and finished clinically as Arsenal will now turn up the heat in search of a second.
