Manchester City seized control of the Premier League title race by beating rivals Arsenal 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday.

Kevin De Bruyne scored two of City’s goals and set up John Stones for another.

Rob Holding netted a late consolation goal for the Gunners but Erling Haaland had the final say when he scored his 33rd league goal of a record-breaking season.

Arsenal still ended the night top of the EPL table but their lead is now worth only two points, while City have two games in hand.

It took City just seven minutes to break the deadlock in Wednesday’s Premier League title showdown.

De Bruyne beat Gunners keeper Aaron Ramsdale with a low finish from 23 after dribbling with the ball from inside the center circle.

The Belgian has assisted Haaland for 10 goals this season but their the roles were reversed on Wednesday.

Haaland controlled a long ball from John Stones on the halfway line. With his back to goal, Haaland held off a challenge from Holding before stroking a pass into De Bruyne’s path.

De Bruyne has already burst past Thomas Partey before reaching the ball.

With the ball at his feet, De Bruyne then jinked away from center-back Gabriel before nailing a low shot from long range.

But De Bruyne was far from finished. He scored again in the second half, after another Haaland assist.

That made it 3-0 to City, after De Bruyne had set up Stones for a goal that was awarded following a long VAR review.

De Bruyne has now scored eight goals against Arsenal. He has scored more goals against the Gunners than against any other opponent.

Haaland wrapped up the scoring in the fifth minute of stoppage time. He has now scored 49 goals in all competitions for City this season.

Video: Moment of magic from Martin Odegaard leads to Arsenal opener

Arsenal have opened the scoring in their huge Champions League match with FC Porto as the Gunners level the tie at 1-1.

Mikel Arteta’s team needed to score first having been 1-0 down from the first leg and a second would have made life very difficult for the North London club to progress.

That came just before halftime when some beautiful footwork from Martin Odegaard led to the Norweigan playing in Leandro Trossard.

The Belgian star remained composed and finished clinically as Arsenal will now turn up the heat in search of a second.
