Man United qualified for next season’s Champions League courtesy of a 4-1 thrashing of Chelsea.

Needing just a point to be certain of a top-four finish in this season’s Premier League — and a place in the group stages of Europe’s top competition in 2023/24 — United never looked back after Casemiro headed in the opener after only six minutes at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have endured a dispiriting season but they played well in the first half, dominating possession and creating one or two openings, the best of which was spurned by Conor Gallagher.

Yet Frank Lampard’s young side were 2-0 down just before halftime, Anthony Martial tapping in Jadon Sancho’s pass, and from there the result looked certain.

After hitting the crossbar earlier, Bruno Fernandes extended the lead to 3-0 from the penalty spot, followed by Marcus Rashford scoring his 30th goal of the season from a short distance. Joao Felix then scored an impressive consolation goal for the Blues, who currently occupy the 12th position in the table and are eager to conclude this season.

Video: Moment of magic from Martin Odegaard leads to Arsenal opener

Arsenal have opened the scoring in their huge Champions League match with FC Porto as the Gunners level the tie at 1-1.

Mikel Arteta’s team needed to score first having been 1-0 down from the first leg and a second would have made life very difficult for the North London club to progress.

That came just before halftime when some beautiful footwork from Martin Odegaard led to the Norweigan playing in Leandro Trossard.

The Belgian star remained composed and finished clinically as Arsenal will now turn up the heat in search of a second.
