“We will beat Man united with anger’: Bayern star urges his teammates to be ruthless in Mancheser United UCL clash

As if Manchester United weren’t already the underdogs heading into their final Champions League group-stage match, the contest now has added incentive for Bayern Munich.

The German giants are on the back of being thoroughly humiliated in their most recent Bundesliga outing; a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of seventh-placed Eintracht Frankfurt away from home has left Bayern four points away from the top spot in the division – a place they’re so accustomed to occupying.

Prior to that, Bayern oversaw a goalless stalemate in their penultimate group-stage game versus Copenhagen. While they’d already qualified for the round of 16 ahead of kick-off, it saw their 17-game winning streak come to an abrupt end against unlikely opponents, though they still boast a 39-game unbeaten run in this stage of the competition.

Such a statistic won’t make for pleasant reading for the currently in-disarray Red Devils, whose last-16 fate is out of their hands. A win over Bayern could still see them fail to qualify, as they would need Copenhagen and Galatasaray’s showdown to end in a draw.

Unfamiliar with the feeling of two winless matches, Thomas Muller has urged his teammates to use their bitterness as fuel to overturn United convincingly at Old Trafford tomorrow night.

“They [Frankfurt] bullied us in the first half-hour. In the second half, we didn’t play effectively enough to come back, and then of course it becomes unpleasant from that point on,” Muller said, as quoted by Manchester Evening News.

“There has to be a reaction following this. We need to tap into our anger – but we can’t lose our heads.

“I didn’t get the feeling that we didn’t want it, but Frankfurt definitely pushed harder and got their way. We’ll come back stronger, but we don’t have much time.”

(VIDEO) watch: Dortmund vs. Real Madrid: UEFA Champions league final highlights

Real Madrid once again became European champions after their spirited second-half performance saw them storm to a 2-0 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the 2024 UEFA Champions League final.

Dortmund started the game incredibly well and took charge of the first half as they pressed Madrid high in their own half and forced uncharacteristic mistakes.

Their best period of play came as a result of finding Karim Adeyemi in space behind Carvajal, who quite simply didn’t have the legs to keep up with the pace of the 22-year-old Dortmund forward. Adeyemi’s first opportunity came as he looked to take the ball around Thibaut Courtois but that saw his angle tighten and ruin his shot at goal.

Ian Maatsen, who has attracted attention around Europe this season, then drifted from the left into the centre of the pitch before sliding through a sublime pass to Niclas Fullkrug. The German striker, who scored in the semifinal first leg versus PSG, slid along the surface to try to poke the ball past Courtois, which he managed, but it rebounded off the post and Madrid cleared the danger. The offside flag may have spared Madrid in any case.

The man of the match from the 2022 final then made a series of saves and showed no signs that it was his first Champions League game between the sticks this season after sitting out with an ACL injury for almost all of 2023/24.

Madrid went into the break in need of inspiration and they came out for the second half and forced Kobel into his first real save of the game. Vinicius was brought down on the edge of the box and Kroos took aim for the top-left corner, but the Dortmund keeper matched the strike.

Carvajal was then left wide open at the far post and had his effort terrifically stopped by Maatsen on the six-yard line. The Madridistas woke up and, for the first time, you heard their belief grow.

Madrid really kicked into gear after the hour mark as they surged down the wings through Rodrygo and Vinicius but each time they looked to pick someone out in the box, nobody was there.

Vinicius then clipped in a delightful ball aimed toward Bellingham in the box but the Englishman couldn’t get his head to it and Kobel failed to claim it mid-air, which saw the ball end up inches wide of the far post.

That period of pressure proved too much for Dortmund as one of Kroos’ corners was finally taken advantage of by the La Liga side. This time, the former Bayern player whipped it short and Carvajal beat Fullkrug to it by flicking it past Kobel to give Madrid the lead.

Madrid then hounded Dortmund’s 18-yard box in search of a second and did so through their brilliant Brazilian, Vinicius. He stroked home from the left past Kobel and sealed the victory after Maatsen’s error.

Dortmund thought they had fought their way back into it as Fullkrug found the back of the net but it was ruled out for offside.

“He will destroy defenders : Man Utd told to brace up ahead of crucial Champions League tie vs Bayern Munich

Manchester United face Bayern Munich and Harry Kane in the Champions League on Tuesday night, needing victory to stand any chance of reaching the knockout stages.

Manchester United have been told to prepare for a fired-up Harry Kane when they face Bayern Munich in a must-win Champions League game on Tuesday.

United host Bayern at Old Trafford knowing they need to win and hope for a draw between Copenhagen and Galatasaray to reach the knockout stage of the Champions League. Erik ten Hag is under huge pressure following a shocking 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth on Saturday.

They will aim to bounce back against Bayern, who were thrashed 5-1 by Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga over the weekend. Thomas Tuchel’s side are four points behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga and Kane has not scored in the past two games, but the Bayern boss is certain he will bring his A-game against United.

Harry Kane

“Yes, for him 100 per cent. He is a winner, he is a champion,” Tuchel told The Sun. “It’s nice to go back to England and to Old Trafford. Harry will love it I think and is looking forward to it. Harry is a top pro and a fantastic guy who has adjusted very well to life in Germany.”

Kane was linked with a move to United over the summer, but ended up signing for Bayern in a deal worth an initial €100million (£86.4m) plus add-ons. He has been in fantastic form since moving to Bavaria, scoring 22 goals in 19 games across all competitions and Tuchel says that is down to his settled home life.

“Life in Munich is a good life,” he said. “He is fluent in German! Munich is a safe city, a beautiful city. We have a lot of nature and a lot of golf courses for Harry when he has some time off and everybody speaks English, which is good for him – that helps him a lot.”

Kane clearly does not regret choosing Munich over Manchester. Speaking at a press conference in September, he said: “Obviously over the summer I know there were some talks between a few clubs in the background, but Bayern was a team I was really interested by and really excited by, so there weren’t many other discussions.

“Once they came in, it was between them and Tottenham to talk, and the deal got done. My focus is on here, obviously Manchester United are a great club, a really big club as well, but I decided to come here and I’m really happy I have.”

Ten Hag is under huge pressure coming into the Bayern game, with United sixth in the Premier League and bottom of Group A in the Champions League.

United’s form at Old Trafford has been a particular concern, with Bournemouth the third side to win 3-0 there this season, while Galatasaray left with a 3-2 win back in October.

“We need a reaction now” Thomas Tuchel sends warning message ahead of crucial UCL tie against Manchester United

Bayern Munich has been talking to the media about their Champions League tie against Manchester United on Tuesday night at Old Trafford.

It’s a night to behold when you consider it will be about two European giants coming head-to-head under the floodlights at the Theatre of Dreams.

For the Bundesliga giants, it’s a bit of a nothing affair since they’ve already secured top spot in Group A. It’s a completely different story for Manchester United as we need a win and for results elsewhere to go our way to have any chance of reaching the last-16 of the Champions League.

Bayern go into the game on the back of a 5-1 thumping at Eintracht Frankfurt on Saturday, so Tuchel has sent a warning to his players ahead of United’s crucial Champions League tie.

The former Chelsea coach is demanding a reaction from his players after their embarrassing defeat.

“We underestimated the danger of the situation and completely gave the game away very early on,” Tuchel said, as per the Manchester Evening News.

“But I have confidence in my team. There’s no point in bad-mouthing everything now. It continues on Tuesday [at] Old Trafford. We need a reaction there.”

United are relying on a lot of things to go their way in order to get to the next stage of the competition.
